I've seen a lot of threads lately on SMF University, and the General boards about how certain oils and soaps are giving really rough shaves on the first try. I find the same happens to me, but I usually change my blade when I get new stuff (and new blades). I've been stretching blades to 9 or 10 shaves with no real problems until I switch out.

Then I bleed like a stuck hog.

Seems I push down harder and harder as the blade gets duller and duller, by the time I roll around to a new blade I take off everything down to the bone.

I've adjusted my shave technique based on this thread alone and I haven't bled out in 2 weeks. AND I'm still getting just as close a shave.

So, anyway, just my two cents, thanks for another great rule of thumb for great shaves! (And make damn sure to revisit your shave technique before you try any new products!)

For me Feathers work very well then drop off quick. I toss them and all other blades as soon as they do less than their best work.

I just gotta say, after following my own advice, I'm only getting 3 or 4 shaves out of a Feather. I'm actually getting more out of lesser blades, mostly because (I think) since they start not as sharp, they get duller slower, sometimes 5 shaves before I pitch 'em.

Anyway. I've now got an eye out for blades, as I'll be going through what I have a lot faster than I had thought at first.

I shave once every 3 days, and I use a Feather blade in my Tech.I would not buy it again, I do not like it at all.I get about 5 shaves from each side of the blade, so 10 shaves, but my beard is light, so YMMV.

All these threads about "how many shaves with ?" always remind of the commercial with the owl when I was a kid asking "how many licks can you get out of a Tootsie Roll Pop?"

I think it was a Tootsie Roll Pop. My memory is not what it used to be.

Squire,

Just curious- how often do you find that a blades best work is NOT the first shave?
