Can anyone ID this razor?

Let's talk about single and double edged razors and the blades that they use.

There are the only markings:

Old Type or NEW? Or something else?

Somehow this looks like some sort of Gillette New from the 1930s but lets see what some of the true experts on this site have to say.

I'd say a 1909 Gillette Pocket Edition ABC

Does that make it an "Old Type"? I know the ABC razors are very collectable. Do they shave as well as a Standard Old Type?

Please forgive the neophyte questions.

It's older than the NEW, since it doesn't have a slot. The fancy handle was probably made by the American Button Company, which made some handles for Gillette.

Excellent. Thank you for the link. When I see one of these I usually bid on it but the prices have been going quite high as these razors are collectable.

Me? I just want a good shaver. :D

I did manage to win one auction, got a nice 1963 I3 Slim Adjustable that has been replated. A real beauty.

the prices on the sets, esp. those with a patterned razor rather than an old style razor, have really escalated. seems like 100-200% compared to a year ago.
