Old Type

Post by ScottB »

I've been bidding on these for awhile. I won an auction tonight for this 1918 Khaki Old Type.

I'm hoping its a good shaver.

either way a greating loooking piece... i have a "old"
when i got the hand was/is cracked so i never get to shave with it..

i found a aftermaket handle that screws in the head just find and i tried the razor a few times, shaves quite nice but it is aggressive

I wondered myself about plating but I'm pretty sure its the original nickel finish in unusually good shape.

I've read that these were mild shavers which is what I'm hoping for. The NEW is supposed to be more aggressive.

Ok, I'll stop with the large picts lol.

My old type is not mild at all, more like overly aggressive

Doesn't mean he doesn't put it on a polishing wheel...

I think the prevailing wisdom on CFM is that he personally does not replate; he has his friend do it.

Either way, it's a great looking Old Type.

Hard to believe a razor looking like that was made in 1918. Did the seller clean it up or did you? [Or both or neither!?]

Post office tracking number shows it was delivered but the UPS store where I keep a PO box says they don't have it. If it turns out to be lost it is the first time but I sure wish it has been a package of shave soap or something other than this particular item. It makes me feel a little sick to tell you the truth.

Scott,

No need to be sick. Wasn't your fault. I once had a package deliverd to my neighbors house. They were on vacation and it sat on their front porch for a week before my curiosity got the best of me. I went across the street to look and discovered it was mine. Stuff happens. Maybe it will turn up.

Hi there,

One thing those Old Types aren't is a mild shaver. I've tried lots of OC types over the years and that head design has one hell of a bite. Heh, on my face those things feel like about the #11 setting on my Gillette adjustable.

Some NEW types are sorta mild, especially the ones with longer teeth. Others such as the NEW Deluxe are pretty aggressive.

I'll be curious what you think of the Old Type performance.

Interesting. I've read that the Old Type was relatively mild...for an OC.

I guess we are going to find out. :)

It sure is nice looking. Original finish, like new basically.

Perhaps it will cut through my beard on Monday morning when I've skipped shaving over the weekend. It might be able to takeover for my Vision for that particular job. I wasn't planning on starting a museum so I hope its a shaver.

I've sort of reviewed this razor in today's SOTD.
