Light Brigades

Let's talk about single and double edged razors and the blades that they use.

Light Brigades

Post by churchilllafemme »

I have to rave for a moment. In answer to a plea that I posted asking to buy a few of the rare, highly-rated blades, I was sent a single Wilkinson Light Brigade blade by another member. I used it for the first time this morning in my Feather Stainless, and I had absolutely the best, closest, nick-free shave I have ever had. Admittedly I haven't used a lot of different blade types (including Schick Plus Platinums or Personna 74s), but this clearly was far better than the others I've used (such as Feathers, Treets, Iridiums, Personna Red Israelis, Gillette 7 O'clock Yellows).

If any of you out there have any LBs or ever hear of any being available, please let me know tout de suite.

John acquiring a stash of Light Brigade Wilkinsons falls into the realm of the improbable, like it might be possible to get a date with Jessica Simpson.

John, Well, now you know and can better understand why I use what I do and why some of us who have been using DEs for a very long time feel as we do regarding the blades that are currently available. I always tended to choose the LBs 'back then', but the Schick plus Platinums, Personna 74s, and some of the Gillette contemporaries were just about as good. It was mostly a matter of personal taste. And one could pick up a pack of any of them in the supermarket or drugstore for spare change.

Well, John, I can be pretty generous with much of my shaving equipment and supplies, but when it comes to vintage blades I don't share and I don't sell.

I bought, what seemed at the time, (2007), a ridiculous amount of LBs on ebay for essentially their original retail price. I will not part with a single blade, unless Gordon begs me on bended knee. I am 52 years old, so these should last me until my dying day. Please do not hate me because i am beautiful- it's the Light Brigades.

The LBs are seriously the most difficult to locate.

I have, ahem, a small collection of vintage blades but could not locate a *single* Light Brigade. Not one.

At some point I decided to not hunt for them. They ought to be left to those who simply must have them, like Pandas that must have bamboo to survive. :D :D :D

Yes, the local shortage of bamboo IS another problem...where will it end?...

Clive,

You should have "BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF EMERGENCY" printed on the glass!

Those aren't necessarily LBs. Should say "Chromium Edge" somewhere on the packaging. There's one pack where you can see a thick black stripe below the top card, which I think is indicative of a different type of blade.
