British Rocket LD - Aluminum... Any Thoughts?

Let's talk about single and double edged razors and the blades that they use.

British Rocket LD - Aluminum... Any Thoughts?

Post by Crag » Wed Nov 16, 2011 11:52 am

I currently shave with a Merkur 23C and am thinking of adding a new Razor to the rotation...

I have a friend who has a Rocket LD in Aluminum (Aluminium) that he wants to sell, but I find virtually no info about it except a few pictures on Achim's site referencing when they were made. My friend wants $50 and I'm tempted, but thought I'd ask if anyone has one and what their shaving impressions of it are.

Any thoughts? Is the British Rocket LD worth $50? I know they are made in Gold, but this one is Aluminum and in very fine condition.

Thanks in advance for your input!
Matt

I haven't had the chance to try one myself, but they are very light, and I've heard they feel a little dinky because of it. They look nice though :P
I was tempted by a gold-anondized aluminum LD that was on Etsy. Might still be there.

If you do go for it, please report back.

Is this an 'all aluminium" or just aluminium-handled Rocket?

I've got the aluminium-handled version (weighing in at 57g) and it's a nifty little shaver.

Mine was £30, so $50 might be about right if it's in good nick.

Yeah I used the razor today and it felt like a toy...I shaved with it and it just wasn't a very good shave for me, but it could have been my new Feather blade and lack of technique with this particular razor...Something about it seemed cheap tho...not heavy enough, but the action was smooth and not a bit of wear anywhere on it at all.

I'm on the fence...gold one, on Etsy, you say???!...

Some friend I seem to be...

Must be the all aluminum one. A real lightweight, at 34 grams.

yes...it's the all aluminum one and weighs in at a paltry 29g...feels like shaving with an aluminum drink can...

I gave it back to my friend and am moving on in my quest for a fine shaving instrument...perhaps I'll find a nice Rocket HD somewhere...
