The razors you like/use the most?

Let's talk about single and double edged razors and the blades that they use.

- Merkur Slant (gold)- with a Feather this is my favorite: irritation-free shaves with the grain. No need to go against the grain.
- EJ Chatsworth - a beautiful razor which I try ever so often: it just takes several passes to match a single pass with the Slant.
- Merkur travel razor - fun and cute. Why the heck not?

I have enjoyed trying quite a few beautiful razors over the last few years. Now that I am using the R41 with an Ikon Bulldog handle my rotation consists of 1 razor. Not much of a rotation. Fortunately, I am redoing my bathroom so I will have a very nice display of my retired shaving gear.

Yes, that Ikon Bulldog handle coupled with a great DE head (for me the DE89) has really improved the balance and control of the razor. A great discovery in this wet shaving journey.

(Blowing the dust off of this.)

Still no change from my first reply. Except that with the new UFO handle the R41 is getting more use. There is an Old and New in the mix as well.

I'm a newbie. So far I've had (in order of acquistion):

Lord L6
Gillette Black Handle Super Speed TTO
Lord w/plastic handle
Gillette Tech (gold plated ball handle)

I like the Lord L6 but PIF'd it out.

I thought I liked the TTO but after much effort and consideration I've decided I don't like it. Am going to PIF or sell it.

Lord w/plastic handle appears to have a slightly different head shape/design than the L6 but I like it.

I just received the Gillette Tech a few days ago and so far I really like it. I think the TTO's head was too big/fat for me to get the correct blade angle and I'm more of a 3-piece razor guy. Time will tell.

Well, now that I've fallen in love with my new Cobra, I am currenty using a Feather ProGuard. I want to try the Kai's, but the price for them is turning me off.

I have retired my slant, but when I used it, I enjoyed Feathers, Trigs and Bolanzo blades.

1. Merkur Slant HD
2. Merkur Open Comb HD

When I get tired of one, I switch to the other. Sometimes I work in my Merkur Classic Straight Bar, but it usually does not last too long in the rotation.

My overall favorite is the Gillette Tech if I am clean shaven. I find the Tech head particularly effective at shaving the hair under the nose and in the cleft area.

If I am sporting a goatee then pretty much any razor will do.

Note: On Ebay I am noticing many vintage Tech razors that haven't been used (new). Even more exciting is that they are going unnoticed. I just managed to scoop 4 (new) Gillette Tech razors with very little bidding and not much money down.

I've been pleased that a couple of other gents have mentioned the Gillette Aristocrat.

I shave most of the time with my 1948 Aristocrat, and (to me) it's the best shaving tool on earth. Slightly heftier and a tad more aggressive than most superspeeds. Beautiful machining, lovely non-slip handle. Shaves wonderfully.

To find a thing of such beauty that also works superbly . . . well, it makes it easier to believe in a benevolent God who wants us to be happy!
