gillette razor

Post by defrank »

I recently acquired another gillette safety razor from a family member who just passed away. Its a black handle (plastic) twist to open, about 4 inches long and it has a dial with numbers 1-9 on it. Does anyone have any idea what the model name of this razor is , and what the numbers represent?
it has inside the head (pat nos. on pkg)

It sounds like a Long Handle Super Adjustable, an excellent razor by the way.
1=mild and 9=aggressive. When I've used one, I had it set to a 3 or 4.

+1 -- my super adjustable is still one of my favourite DE razors.

When you're adjusting the numbers, make sure you loosen the butterflies a bit so it's not in a bind. After you've selected the number you want, then you can tighten it down.

Nice razor ... one of my absolute favorites!

For me, a great razor; in my top three. I purchased one and gave it to my son as a Father's Day gift. IMHO, nothing beats these vintage Gillettes.

Well, since Frank has his answer I don't mind doing this...

Is the Super Adj. significantly different than a Slim Adj. ?

I haven't shaved with my Super Adjustable in awhile, but my recollection is that the head on the Slim Adjustable is a little shallower and maybe more compact. There's also a weight difference with the Slim Adjustable being heavier.

How that translates into a shave is hard to say. I like the balance of the Slim more, and the shallower head, but do like the feel of my Super.

My guess is, like a lot of things, it probably depends on your preferences and facial characteristics.
