Dad's old razor?
Hi guys,
Many years ago, before I learned to shave properly I sadly threw out my dad's old DE razor, something that I deeply regret now.
I know this is not much to go on, but I am wondering if anyone recognises its make from this description.
It was a butterfly DE, the head was chrome, the main shaft was a smooth, dull finished, dark navy blue colour, being about 2.5" long, the end, the bit that opens the razor was again chrome, about an inch in length, half satin, half with a splined pattern for gripping. The shaft was quite chunky, being about a half inch in diameter.
I was born in 1968, and I know he had it from at least 1970 as I used to watch him shave with it.
I know its not much to go on, but I'd like to try and find one on fleabay.
Cheers guys,
John.

Re: Dad's old razor?
Holy crap!!!! I reckon I found it after all that, Google to the rescue!!!!
I looks like this, and apologies as I think the page is another forum.
http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread ... fety-Razor
Halfway down the page! Sure looks like it to me, I seem to recall dad's was a paler blue, but that might have been through being used twice a day every day for twenty plus years.
What's the verdict on these razors?

Re: Dad's old razor?
Appears to be a Wilkinson Sticky, a fine British DE razor. I note that you are located in England, and that increases the probability that your Dad used a Wilkinson -- a storied UK company.
I'm sorry you disposed of it, but hopefully you can pick up another of the same model and use it in good health.
Cheers from across the Atlantic!

How fantastic that you were able to find out the type of razor!
Now you need to get one and tell us how you like it. I've heard good things about them.

John my first thought was a Gillette Knack, but yes, I'll go with the Wilkinson.

I've been looking on fleabay, no luck thus far.
Found this on youtube, definitely the same razor

And now, to add insult to injury, I find they are rare and highly collectable, bloody typical

I'd post a WTB shingle in the b/s/t area. You never know what the membership has, and I've had very good luck doing that.

Re: Dad's old razor?
Good for you! Have you shaved with it yet?
Open up an account with a photo posting site. I use Photobucket but there are many. Relax, a minimal Photobucket account is free. Then upload your pix, copy the link, and put the link in a post here.
Or you can open a dropbox account, put the photo in your dropbox and share the link with us. Of the 2 the dropbox is far more versatile because it can be used for any data. I don't think dropbox is the only service doing that but I don't know what you'd google. Data storage/sharing sites? Maybe that.

I tried others, but PostImage seems to suit my needs very well. I recommend it.

Got a photobucket account already, so will use that.
Not shaved with it yet, going to get it cleaned in an ultrasonic bath first, and chuck my Timor DE in at same time. Then take some pics and then enjoy using.

Re: Dad's old razor?
Hi guys, I finally managed to get my "new" sticky ultrasonically cleaned and then polished.
Took these photos today prior to its first use by me.
Wish me luck

Re: Dad's old razor?
Quick update, been using the sticky for a week or so now and it's beginning to feel comfortable in my hands, was a little harsh at first. Also moved from the Palmolive to Arco for a change, so that probably didn't help matters either.
But all in all, I reckon that was twenty five quid well spent
Happy New Year by the way everyone, all the best to you all
