merkur 2 piece razors

I am curious on the following

1. how do they really compare to the 2 piece Gillette razors?

2. materials used, is it genuine steel or brass, or is a lot of it pot metal?

Almost all Merkur & other razors use the zmack head. I have never had a problem with my Merkur razors.
