Charcoal Goods Razor on the Way

I have a Charcoal Goods hammered brass safety razor coming, with both Level 2 and Level 3 base plates. I suspect they'll both be too aggressive for me, but I may be able to trade the razor or plates for a milder Level 1. I've used the stainless version of the Level 1 and like it.

They make beautiful razors. I have the West Coast Shaving Hollywood Palm CNC Safety Razor Level One. I only have three shaves in with a Crystal IP Blade, and it is mild/ efficient reminding me of the Feather AS-D2.

Yes, the stainless Level 1, when used with vintage blades like a Wilkinson Light Brigade, reminds me of the AS-D2s I have in my rotation too. I am going to try the Level 2 at least a couple times, just out of curiosity, and will stay away from the Level 3. I have been trying to find a brass Level 1, but no one seems to want to part with one.

I'm very satisfied with the Level One, as I gravitate to mild razors. I will try it with the Polsilver SI or Gillette SharpEdge Russian blades next. I bought 100 Crystal Blades from West Coast Shaving for $12. I noticed a slight degredation of performance on the third shave, but they are still a very inexpensive blade even if used 2 or 3 times. Tomorrow, I am going to try Polsilver SI in the Feather AS-D2 which is a combo that I haven't tried yet. Just a thought, but you might try a somewhat milder blade in the Level Two. I use Personna Reds in my medium aggressive razors and it tones them down. Others say Voskhod works well for the same purpose, but I haven't tried them. I had the same predicament with my Above The Tie M1 and R1. I preferred the milder M1, and had to be selective about the blades that I could use in the R1.

Thank you for the words of wisdom. I have a lot of the Light Brigades, and they are extremely smooth, even in more aggressive razors, so I'll probably try one of them initially in the Level 2. I'll report on my experience in the SOTD.
