Markings on Muhle Heads

Let's talk about single and double edged razors and the blades that they use.

Markings on Muhle Heads

Post by Pauldog »

I had thought that all my Muhle heads were free of markings. When I recently got a razor on eBay that had a Muhle handle, I thought that the "4" on the underside of the top plate meant that it wasn't made by Muhle. But then I noticed that my (2013) R41 head does have a number under the top plate, so now I don't know.

Anyone here know about these markings?

My current theory is that the closed comb Muhle head has no markings, the older (2011) open comb head has a "4" under the cap, and the newer (2013) open comb head cap is marked with a "5."

This is based on seeing a lot of closed comb heads and having a 2013 open comb head cap with a "4." The "5" is on a razor I got recently on eBay. It's supposed to be a cheap "Utopia" razor (judging from the box and where the seller got it), but it has a Muhle handle and a head that also looks like a Muhle, but maybe one where the cap and base plate don't match.

The problem is that I no longer have a 2011 open comb model to compare.
