I will certainly be watching for information about the new razor with the safety bar. I'm hoping that it will be gentler than the iKon open-comb razors have been reported to be.

close shave wrote:Murray

According to Greg the Straight bar is very mild but not as much as the old Gillette Techs :D
It may well be worth a try then. Thanks!

New iKon Series Sneak Peak

Post by Pureslab »

Here are some more images of the new series - these are really good and hopefully the pics give some idea on the solid build quality.

These are my brushed matte finish

Image

From the inception of creating iKon Razors a little under a year ago - I'm now offering perfection.

Image

High grade stain resistant stainless steel

Using an improved slotted bar blade locking mechanism , better finish - matte and high polish will be available.

The "Standard Head" is a fantastic shaver - perfect blade alignment

Image

"Deluxe" Open Comb head will have a bit of a bite to it , but will offer a fantastic close shave to those familiar with using a similar style Gillette head.

Should be ready Feb 2010 for sale and will run an introductory "forum member" special when they are initially released[/i]

I was considering the Muhle R89, but would wait for this.

I was going to buy one of the previous razors that iKon was offering, but decided to hold off until these become available. Nice looking razors.

Beautiful razors and love the new design. I'd be a buyer of a long handled version too.

Ron, I assume you are not talking about the open comb!

Andy, I wouldn't venture within a zipcode of an open comb. But the standard head . . . probably not a good idea either, but it wouldn't be the first time that looks have won out over reason. <cough>

Yes, when he says "it has a bite" I think you should take him at his word. I have a first generation iKon, and it is as agressive as anything I have. Of course, if the new safety bar version is like a tech it might be OK for you, but I have gathered from reading your posts that you don't want anything too aggressive.

Did that come across?
Yep, I'm pretty much an injector and Krona kinda guy. It's frustrating sometimes, especially when a beauty of a razor like the Ikon comes along.

As for Marc's post above, well, his shaving experiences would just about kill me. (They almost did. I started out with Merkurs and barbed wire.) He's definitely one of the Top Commandos around here. I only wish I had his and Squire's body armor.

I can see me getting one of each if they come in a long handled version.

I agree with Marc 100% on the 1st generation razor.

All I can add is "Mind the Gap"!

That second shot does make the gap look intimidating, or at least something to be mindful of.

I like the looks of the 2010 version of the Open Comb, but am not a fan of an aggressive razor. I can set my Futur on about 2.5 and have more aggression than I can tolerate. However, I really do like the Ikon handles. The design, finish, weight, price, and materials are top notch.
