The Razor That Haunts Me

This started years ago. I first found this razor in patent drawings, and since I had never seen it anywhere else, I assumed it had never actually been made. Then a member here posted a picture in the Collectors' Corner. There was also an inexpensive Turkish clone selling on eBay called "Cic Bey," but I didn't realize what it was, so I didn't buy one.

And now the real one is back on eBay, and well below $100.

That's an interesting TTO mechanism. Do you know if the razor has different shaving qualities than the Krona?

This is a new one for me. One never knows what might show up in a flea market or estate sale.

I think it's likely it was never sold in the USA. The two recent sellers I've seen are in Bulgaria.

I have no idea what the shave is like. I've never even seen one in person.

Another one showed up:

A little less, too - $60 including shipping from Ireland to the US. On the razor itself is a clear marking = "Made in Germany."

Good price for such a rare one. It'll sell easy.

I suppose it would sell for quite a bit more if it were all metal.

This $60 one is still for sale:

I think that not only is it quite rare, but it's also quite obscure. Otherwise, it would either be selling for more or would have sold already. Maybe part of it is that there isn't a standard name for it. If I were selling it, I would list it as "Extremely Rare Schick 'Platinum' Double Edge Razor with 1960's Design." I could throw in a nice print of the patent drawing.

I see the seller will consider offers. I have a question - have we decided whether this razor was before the Krona, or was it introduced after the Krona? Also, in what ways would this TTO compare to the Krona TTO?

I'm pretty sure the Krona came first. They could have overlapped. And as far as having a standard name, the "Schick Platinum" seems to be it. It's just that hardly anyone in the USA knows about it.

I just found one for about half the price of the previous one I saw:

I didn't know Etsy had this kind of stuff. [Actually, I did know, but I forgot, because it's been years since I looked at anything there. I even have an account that I forgot about.]

These Russian "ISKRA" (Искра) razors must be knockoffs:
