Interesting reading. But wouldn't a "ignore user's posts" function work good too? If someone logs on to exercise their bile-spewing, you can just put that user on your ignore list and not have to see their posts.
Some online communities I've been on have that kind of function (i.e. an ignore user function), but I've never seen it (or at least noticed it) in any forums.
Not saying ignoring a troll is the best way to deal with them, but it's one way of letting people get around having to read their bilious posts.
