Post count discrepancy

Not that this particularly matters, but I'm intrigued to know why there is a one post discrepancy in my post count.

If you go to my profile, you'll see that the "total posts" number is one less than the number if you click the link below saying "find all posts by Gareth".

As I said, it doesn't matter, I'm simply intrigued as to why there would be a difference between the two.

I just checked mine and found out I have a 5 post discrepancy...

Maybe it has something to do with deleted posts or something, I'm nor sure.

Click on my profile you will see 1856 posts, then click on 'Find all posts by nodaktim' and you will see my posts and a count of 1861.

The real explanation could be that the threads where the missing posts reside got offensive at some point and got moved to the Super Sekrit Mod Forum where we sacrifice effigies of Scrapyard Ape and other forum miscreants.

My official count is 3 less than my list.

I noticed when we were having trouble with the server that some posts didn't seem to add to the count. Tim wasn't posting at that time, but I wonder if such glitches could contribute to said inconsistency.

Art, yeah, I've noticed this with Moderator's profiles before. I've always assumed that the difference is due to posts that are made in the Moderator's Forum which we can't see.

Obviously Greg, Murray and I aren't and never have been Moderators, so this isn't the reason for our own post count discrepancies. Either Richard or Murray's suggestions seem to make sense.

Art, your total number of posts i.e. the number underneath your avatar is 2649. If I go into your profile and click "find all posts by AACJ", I can only view 1986 of the posts you have made. That's a difference of 663 posts.

Art, when I check your post count in the 'Find All Posts By AACJ' I get the true number, which matches that under your avatar. Obviously, it's because I can see those in the Mods & Admins forum, which ordinary members do not.
Gareth, your difference must be due to threads that were moved into the M&A forum for dissection (I am quite sure any objectionable content was not yours!)

I found 2655 and 2650 for mine, but that's cause I can see all the stuff in the mods/admins forum as well. I wonder why you see it matching Chris? Maybe more permissions.

Actually, I think it's a kind of measure of how controversial you are.

Gareth = 1
"The Ape" = 6
Murray = 3
Clive = 8

I therefore declare that The Scrapyard Ape and Clive are two of the worst behaved members of SMF because they have the most posts missing!
