Lately, everytime I visit SMF and click on "view posts since last visit", I get a message stating that nothing matches my search criteria. Am I doing something wrong? I never had this problem before, and I generally don't log out after each session.

This happened to me a couple of times too. What I think happened is the site dumped me and I had to sign in again before I wasn't treated like a guest again.

You need to be sure that you are logged in. I had this happen a couple of times, and realized that I needed to re-login.

If the site goes down momentarily while you are already logged in, this sometimes happens.
