first shave with Gillette Adjustable - HD

Post by rahul325 »

all i can say is WOW !!! and WTF i waited so long to get this razor.

first of all, thnx to gatorade for selling me 2 fine gillettes, before i got the HD, the slim GA was the one that replaced Merkur HD. But now the HD is the razor for day2day use :)

i popped in an Israeli blade into the HD and the shave was so freakin' smooth. no razor burn at all

now i am kicking myself for selling my batch of israeli blades coz they didnt work well with the merkur, i guess i am off to fleabay to get me some more.

if u havent tried a GA HD, u ought to, it will change ur shaving life :)

later,
-R.

Once again gatorade the razor pimp strikes. lol

He sold me a slim and an HD adjustable and right now I can't seem to put the HD Gillette down. I have so many other razors that I bought but there just sitting in my cabinet untouched.

I can never seem to get a bad shave with them as long as I use Derby or Israeli blades. Feathers are a different story. No matter what razor i use even a superspeed it still doesn't give me a comfortable shave. Ahh well lesson learned.

I agree with you about the Gillette HD. I don't even try to use any other razor any longer. I have two mint condition HD's and I use one a week and then clean it and put it away and use the other HD. I rotate the two razors every other week. I use ONLY Feather blades. I have tried all the others and can't get the quality shave I get from a Feather.

I also have a GOLD HD, but I don't shave with it. God forbid I get water spots on it.

Just an observation: I have 2 GA Fat Boys one E3 (1959) and one F2(1960). Both of these perform the same. I also have 2 GA Slim Handle one L2(!966) and L3(1966). While the L2 Slim shaves very similar to the Fat Boys I find the L3 to much more aggressive. While I can get my typical shave with the Fat Boys and the L2 Slim set at 4 or 5, on the L3 this is much too aggresive and I need to use 3 or less to get a similar exposure.

I am not complaining about this just wanted to point out that the settings are not always the same on the GAs. :D

I also have a Gillette Adjustable from Gatorade. Best shave in my opinion. I ahve tried a couple of Gillette SS's but I always go back to my slim and fatboy adjustables. today I bought a tube of Trumpers Rose and Taylor's lavender...tomorrow's shave is going to be good!!!

What is a Gillette Adjustable HD?
I thought I knew all the Gillette adjustables: 195, fat boy, slimboy, black handle short and long, toggle, etc...

What do the letters H and D stand for? Is it a Gillette designation or something concocted later by collectors?

they mean heavy duty but not many people call the fatboy that, it's more often associatted with merkur's fixed blade hefty classic. if you want to keep it simple just always call it a fatboy and everyone will know what you're talking about. most people also call the "slim boy" you refer to by the name "slim handle adjustable" and the black handle adjustables are also called super adjustables regularly.
