Yes, it is the same company.Nitrox wrote: Richard, does Booster's make JM Fraser cream?
I have Island Bay Rum, Polar Ice and Mosswood and they're all made by Booster's Canada.
Good quality and value for the money by the way.

Well, here I am, following Richard once again. But, at least no stunning photo directly above my poor pedestrian entry.
Thursday:
Gillette HD Rocket & Swedish Gillette blade
Simpson Polo #8 Best
Trumpers Sandalwood hard shaving soap
D R Harris's A/S Milk ( older formula )
Trumpers Spanish Leather
Note: The Polo 8 is the only brush I currently own that does an great job with hard soaps directly out of the wooden bowl, without more lathering in a separate bowl or my palm. The Chubby #1 I briefly had was also excellent at this, which isn't surprising, as these two brushes are almost identical knot-wise.

A great BBS shave today!
I started with the Menthol Derby cream. I must say that the scent is, to me, much more pleasant than the Lavender, although I can smell no menthol in it at all. Lovely, light scent. The cream lathered well, but I found that its lubrication is insufficient for my heavy beard. It may be fine for others, YMMV, as always. The razor tugged when I started using it (on my chin): I switched to Alpino soap and it glided smoothly across my face. I finished with two more passes with the Alpino.
I used a 1960 Gillette SS with a new Derby blade (I love their blades!). Followed with Afta AS balm (Cheap and effective) and shampooed with NancyBoy shampoo, which I found complemented the Alpino shave soap quite well.
End result, a super smooth shave with no nicks. Very comfortable.

TGIF:
Vulfix 2233
C&E Sandalwood cream
Me: Merkur HD / Feather blade (shave #6)
Son: Gillette Tech razor / "Pretend" blade
Witch hazel
Feather "Kanwa" ASB
Old Spice EDC
I had a shave with my two-year-old son this morning, and he was very interested in how the razor came apart to put in the pretend blade. I got a pretty good shave. His was smooth as silk.
I've been noticing lately what the dry air is doing to my face, so I think I'm going to lay off the alcohol-based aftershave for now.

All right, Richard, there's a new sherrif in town -- Sherrif Lyrt! Beautiful image again. (And again, can I have a bigger version? I am filling up a folder of images to rotate on my computer's desktop, and this would be a nice addition.)
Friday I had a lemon-lime "7-Up" shave:
- J.M. Fraser shaving cream
- G.F. Trumper East India Limes Skin Food
- Truefitt & Hill East India Limes cologne
- Merkur HD w/Feather blade
- SMF III brush
My wife went into the bathroom to brush her teeth after I was done and stuck her head back into the hallway to ask, "Did you clean the shower? It smells like Dow Bathroom Cleaner in here!" I had to confess that I had only poured down the shower drain the unused lather from my mug. *sigh* I am among savages.
(Shortly after that there was an episode of very sick seven-year old, so I'm hoping my day -- which started on such a high note with the shave and then descended into yucky Pajama-Scrubbing Hell -- will level out some time this morning.)

What kind of blade do you use in a two-year old boy, anyway? I have a two-year old son that I was thinking of trying but he keeps dropping the Feathers I prefer.timc wrote:I had a shave with my two-year-old son this morning...

He said he was using a pretend blade. I said that in my post. He spent more time taking the razor apart and putting it back together than actually "shaving" anyway. Well, I put it back together because it's a three piece Tech and it is a bit harder to reassemble (for a two-year-old) than a two piece razor.

Playing catch-up. As usual, every shave started with TKNO-FAW and Infusium conditioner, and ended with Witch Hazel and CHL:
Tuesday night:
Lucky Tiger Shave Cream (thanks for the sample, L. Martino!)
C&E Best Badger
M-type Injector with Schick blade - 2nd shave - 3.5 passes
Wednesday night:
Arko Citrus Cream
Tweezerman Best Badger (thanks, BeautyRose!)
M-type Injector with Schick blade - 3rd shave - 3.5 passes
Thursday night:
T&H Trafalgar Cream
Made-Rite Badger Brush
M-type Injector with Schick blade - 4th shave - 3.5 passes
I'm really enjoying the Injector experience. It gives much more direct feedback on blade angle and pressure than my FatBoy. I can definitely see myself using this repeatedly. It's a great training tool.
The Made-Rite brush from last night is the one I had so much trouble withafter I got it. I realize now that I really had no concept of how to properly use a badger brush. It was too big a jump to the floppy old Made-Rite from the boar brushes I'd been using. Now that I've had a few weeks with the C&E, I decided to try the vintage brush again, and I got a very satisfactory lather. It's not scrubby at all, and I'm finding that I prefer scrubbiness, so it still won't be in my regular rotation, but it's nice to know that I'm learning to use my tools better.
After only one shave with the Tweezerman, I haven't formed much of an opinion, but once I've worked with it and the C&E for awhile, I think I'll post a compare/contrast review. It might be nice for newbies to know the pros and cons of these inexpensive brushes.
Oh, and in each of these cases, I was lathering with very little water, starting in the bowl and doing most of the lathering on my face. This definitely seems to be the method for me, at least with creams.

Oh! You gave him a razor. I see. Will and I were thinking that "I shaved with my two-year-old son" meant you were using him as the razor. Glad you cleared that up.timc wrote:wenestvedt wrote:What kind of blade do you use in a two-year old boy, anyway? Reminds me of all the times I see the book Drawing with Children on the bookshelves here at the library and think, "How do you sharpen them? And wouldn't you pretty much get red? Not much of a color palette."
