Wow, I'll definitely consider that. Merkur may even contact you wondering how you did that.

I never cared for the look of the progress because of the white knob. This is pretty friggin sweet looking though! Good work!

Considering the cost of a Progress, it's a pretty pricey upgrade.

It does look beautiful, however.

I suggest you simply offer a customized Progrees razor. You might be able to get them at a reduced price (or make an arrangement with somone like Lee or Em), so the customized razor could come in at something less than the cost of a Futur.

Re: Stainless Knob For Merkur Progress Razors

Mer wrote:Hello All,

I've come up with a stainless steel knob for the Merkur Progress razor.

Cost to modify your razor is only $29.00. Shipping will be $5.00 for USPS Priority Mail and $10.00 for Global Priority Mail.

PayPal, money orders, etc......

I'll remove the plastic knob and install one made of 303 stainless with your choice of finish, polished or matte. I'll add red enamel to the indication dots and tune the action for a really smooth operation.

You can also choose smooth or fluted.

That is really nice, Eric.
I would definitely be interested. I would want a completely NEW with the fluted knob.

I can also offer a complete razor if you do not have a Progress to modify.

Thanks for looking and please let me know if you have any questions.

I have a problem with breaking my Progress'. Is the knob transferable to other Progress' if I do break my current Progress?

The whole knob assembly comes out and should be able to be installed on another razor. Which part are you breaking?

The head. I think I PM'd you about this a few weeks ago. The head is breaking off from the screw.

That's right.

It shouldn't be a problem to use the new assembly on a different razor.

Great. Now brass. I had mostly settled on the fluted, now I may want Brass.

Am I right in assuming that none of the photos shows the smooth version?
Also, what would the price be if I don't supply my own razor?

Thanks...

Wow. You are quite a hero among men. That's a really nice modification. I've always disliked that plastic knob on the Progress. Terribly bizarre choice on Merkur's part, if I must say so.

So, I must ask (if you can tell). Are you machining these knobs, or did you happen to stumble upon a source for perfect knobs for these things?

Where has this thread been hiding?

Does anyone know what the price is for a new modified progress? I was going to buy a stock progress tomorrow, but not if I can get one with this mod for a reasonable price.

I didn't see the price listed anyplace. I noticed mer isn't taking orders till Sunday, so I'm just wondering the price to see if I should hold off until he's back, or go and get my DE.
