My new products came in!!!

Post by Mickey_85 »

Hey guys,
I'm new to wet-shaving as you could probably tell. After a long time researching i ordered the essentials off classicshaving.com. Here is what i got:

Merkur HD Classic
Taylors Rose shaving cream
Vulfix #2234 Super Badger
Blade Sample pack off LetterK(has not came in yet)
Musgo A/S balm(ordered a few days after, not yet came in)

I got to shout out to classicshaving.com as i was expecting a 2 week wait, as i'm in Australia, but the whole thing came in 4 days. I have a whole weeks beard growth too, so it should be interesting to see how i cope with my first real wet-shave hahah. I'll keep you guys posted.

Congratulations! Just remember, do a great prep job, focus on what you are doing, have patience, and respect your new shaving tools.

Thanks man, i've read up heaps. Most of the guys on this forum have been more than helpful. I think i've already became addicted, already eyeing other creams and the new "barber pole" Merkur hahaha, maybe even a vintage gillette.

Just take it slow and easy. Take the time to learn and master the products you already have. Then start wearing out the credit card!

Good prep, light pressure, correct blade angle, and knowing the grain of your beard and Bob's your uncle. Enjoy, and welcome!

We must read the same forums  I'm a (2 week) newbie and have a Merkur Progress, Vulfix 2235 & Taylor Eaton College Shaving cream (also from Classic), and the sampler pack. Of course, I've already acquired an additional razor (Merkur 38C), Schick injector on it's way and I have T&H shaving soap, Tom's of Maine mint shave cream, Thayer's Witch Hazel and a few other Aftershaves. But I don't have RAD, SCAD, etc. Luckily, I'm keeping the SBAD at bay since that's the most costly of the diseases. I figure I'll eventually buy at least one firmer brush.

Anyway, enjoy! This is a great resource for us newbies. I'm really touched by the PIF (pay it forward) gestures (although I haven't personally benefited!).

Hey all. Everything has came in now. I'm working through the sampler pack. I've only tried the Merkur and the Israeli, i really like the israeli, the Merkur was so-so. I have ordered Trumpers rose, violet and coconut which should be in tomorow, although I REALLY like my Taylors rose. The shaves are getting better and better really, even the first shave produced AWESOME results, with none of the bad points usually attributed to being new to wet-shaving.

dude, the merkur is the best blade ever. Seriously, you should give each blade more than one shave before moving on to the next one......at least that's what the locals say.

I agree with Clive---stick with one brand of blade for at least a week so that you get a feel for what its like. Then go to the next. The comparisons will then be based on a firmer foundation.

The thing is, I only shave once or twice(at most) a week. But ill take it into account and try using the same brand blade 4-5 times from now on.

In my opinion your next step is razorandbrush.com to try some of the additional razor brands over there. I am constantly telling people not to stop with the end of the sampler pack, but keep going after the sampler pack to see what else there is and what suits your beard. As for me I have the sampler pack and a few extra from razorandbrush, I am looking foward to trying out the Sputnik blade.

In my "experienced" opinion his next step should be to learn how to use the DE before he starts buying all kinds of blades that he barely knows how to use. Once he figures out how to use the DE and learns more about blades, he can then venture out. The sampler pack will be plenty for him over the next few months.

jbc, I've noticed that you go out of your way to promote razorandbrush in most of your posts. Are you a troll for that site?

Nah, he just has alot of pals in the know. BTW, what's the point of pointing them to a site that has most of the blades they list as "available soon"? I'm compiling a list of vendors that have blades:

"available" and "available soon". I'll let everyone know the results once they are tabulated.

Anyway, Mickey good luck on the maiden shave. Just remember not to get discouraged if the first few shaves are not so great. You'll be rewarded for your patience.

Hmmm right now, i have more than enough different brands of blades. Even got me some Wilkinson blades as they are easily available in Australia. I'm slowly working my way through the pack, giving each brand more then one go.

No austin I am not. I work for the US Federal Government, where I am a computer specialist for a living. I have no interest in the afore mentioned company in any way. I just get carried away sometimes by some things. I appologise if I seemed a bit over excited or gave the impression that I worked for that company. From now on I will drop all mention of any and all vendors in any way. I have already started here. No mention of any vendors in any way.

that isn't good. What happens if you come across a really good vendor? Are you going to keep it top secret?   I say talk away, if anyone is upset too bad for them. I for one talk about Jim at Vinatge at every opportunity I can and will continue to do so.

I have nothing against mentioning vendors where appropriate and useful. What I have seen is that you will use random threads to boost a couple of your favourite vendors when they don't even carry anything like what the person wants.

I actually appreciate your mention of whichever vendors you like, if they really do sell exactly what I am after.

Keeping your comments on topic and not carried away, would be a better resolution to make.
