Margarita recipes
The wife and I went to the beach for 4 days this week and made some margaritas, they did their purpose but I want a recipe that I can use to make EXCELLENT margaritas. Does anyone have a good margarita recipe they would be willing to share?
I don't like the mixes as they have high fructose corn syrup and it gives me and my wife headaches....plus they are too sweet.
I have been using the following with some success but not much....
Margarita on the Rocks
4 parts tequila
4 parts triple sec
2 parts orange juice
2 parts fresh squeezed lime juice
2 table spoons splenda (or some sugar or sugar substitute)
All poured into a shaker half filled with ice, shaken not stirred.
Salt rimmed margarita glasses filled with cracked ice, then poured into the glasses.
Anyone have another recipe you would like to share?

Art, here is a favorite of mine. Not a "classic" margarita, but tasty none-the-less!
2 mangoes, peeled and sliced (I generally use Dole sliced in the glass jar)
3 peaches, peeled and sliced (use fresh when in season or Dole in the glass jar)
5 parts silver tequila
2.5 parts cointreau
2.5 parts fresh lime juice
Cheers!

I make my margarita on the stronger side. I couldnt exactly tell you what measurements I put it in. In a standard 20oz size glass -
Fill with ice, 2/3 tequila, 1/6 triple sec, and 1/6 Sweet and sour premade mix. I use the sweet and sour bc I don't like the margarita mixes.
Also as far as tequila goes, I believe if you use an expensive tequila in the margarita you ruin the tequila. The better tequila's are supposed to be sipped liked brandy (according to some people). I just like taking shots. I think it has to be a cheaper tequila to make margaritas out of. I personally hate Jose Cuervo and would use Margaritaville Silver.

Don't get me wrong...I'll still slam down shots of Cuervo , but Don Julio Anjeo in a brandy snifter is awesome...Don Julio Blanco is great for shotsclarkkent333 wrote:Good Man!Esoteric83 wrote:Don Julio all the way...Hands down my favorite tequila
If anyone says Cuervo I'll have a spasm. I swear I will. Don't think I won't!
Ok here's a good one - Triple Sec or Cointreau?
They don't sell it in Ontario at any of our gov ran liquor stores The do sell Cabo Wabo, but it is very pricey

$89cad at Ontario Liquor stores, which is around $75USD....When I was in Palm Springs a couple months ago, a store by my hotel had cheap bottles of Cabo ($30-35 if I remember right), but they also had cheap Glenfiddich...Looking back and seeing how Glenfiddich is widely available here, but not as cheap I should have picked up a couple bottles of Don Julio, Cabo or Patron....Oh well, the scotch was nice
I brought back a couple bottles of Don Julio Blanco from Cancun a couple months ago...They lasted like three nights

You know, I have never tried Cabo, I don't know if it's just riding on the coat tails of Sammy or not, some people I have talked to either love it or hate it..clarkkent333 wrote:Ugh. Cabo Wabo is awful. I don't know how you guys drink that.
Fortunately for me, my local Costco carries Don Julio silver and gold. I love me some Costco!
Personally, I don't think I would spend 50.00 on a bottle of something I would be finishing in two days or so anyway. Margaritaville is my usual preference.
Lucky I have a Costco membership but they can't legally sell hard liquor in Virginia. Hard liquor can only be sold by the state Alcohol Beverage Conspiracy.

I prefer Don Julio & Patron, but Cabo is very good IMO...Being that non of these are availble widely up here in our gov controlled liquor stores, they all still have the novelty factorAACJ wrote:You know, I have never tried Cabo, I don't know if it's just riding on the coat tails of Sammy or not, some people I have talked to either love it or hate it..clarkkent333 wrote:Ugh. This is an old thread that I would like to bring back because I have taken an interest in making a killer margarita. Any other good recipes out there? Trying to make a good lime margarita on the rocks.
I tried the classic formula:
2 oz tequila
1 oz cointreau
.75 oz lime juice
I used a blanco tequila, forget the name, but it is 100% agave and has a deer on the bottle. Following the above recipe was hard for me to drink, and the wife could not drink it. I made another one for myself with 1 oz tequila, 1 oz cointreau, 1 oz lime juice, and 1 oz of "simple syrup" which I made by mixing 1/2 part water and 1/2 part sugar (did not boil it, just tried to dissolve as much sugar as possible). This was more drinkable, but I cannot say it tasted as good as margaritas I have had out and about. Any further tequila recos and recipe recos appreciated. Want to try one or two or three with a sweet and sour mix.
Thanks,
Mike

One of our favorite summer drinks
In a glass full of ice
2 parts Tequila
1 part Cointreau
Top of with Simply Limeade
Easy and refreshing, not a true Margarita but still a nice drink.
Second favorite - a nice Mojito
In a glass, muddle half a lime, mint leaves and a tablespoon of sugar.
Fill glass with ice.
Add white rum, to taste.
Top with soda water.
The sugar can be adjusted to taste, I like more, wife likes less, best to quarter the lime and just tear up the mint a little for the muddling.

Although I probably haven't made Margaritas since this thread was initially started, here is my recipe:
2-1/2 oz Patron Tequila
1-1/2 oz Key Lime Juice
1 oz Grand Marnier
Serve on the rocks.
No salt.
Thanks,
Mike

I was on the excavation crew for the Plaza Church on Olivera street; the 'original settlement' if you also discount 10,000 years of native american occupation
We break for lunch, mexican food and lime, bannana, peach and mango PITCHERS of Jimmy Buffet's magick elixer.
My greek girlfriend in a lowcut top escorts my polish Catholic partner Bob Wlodarski and myself back to the 1822 rectory site.Grek girls drink ouzo and metaxa and HOLD IT.
News crew is waiting, Cardinal Mahoney is expressing his displeasure in the time and expense WE are causing. Bob genuflects. My girl tells me to keep my mouth shut. Cameras turn on me because I look like an archaologist; OZ akubra hat, surplus navy khakis and a dreamy look in my eyes as if imagining the past we stood on ( wobbly stood on)
I open my shirt pocket, extract a 17th century silver crucifix and hand it to his excellency without a word.
SALT It's the forgotten balance. I like kosher rock salt sold in Fairfax.
