Shaving after shower and cold water rinse in winter...

How do you guys shave after the shower above a sink in the winter? In my country its getting extremely cold and everytime I step out of the shower I'm freezing. I dont find it relaxing at all shaving in the cold. Especially the part where I'd have to do a cold water rinse. I dont like it. I just skip this step and do a warm water rinse instead. Our bathroom window is always open to ventilate the room.

I used to shave in the shower and when I'm done I'd immediately go to my warm room and wrap 2 towels around me till I'm dry. So how do you guys do it? I find it uncomfortable

I know a cold water rinse is recommended however I have always used a warm water rinse. Both for razor & face.

Why do you need to leave the window open?
If you need to let the steam out, surely the
door to the house could serve that purpose.

I live in Canada, and this time of the year if
I left the window open I would certainly freeze
some extremities

Perhaps your situation is a bit different than most of us so it presents a unique set of challenges.

Your best bet is probably to shave in the shower. Get a fogless mirror as they're cheap. I like Ren's idea as well. A good thick comb-cotton terrycloth bathrobe is very warm.

I don't know why you keep the bathroom window open for ventilation but I trust you have a good reason. Perhaps an alternative is to open another window in your home in an unoccupied room for the ventilation while the bathroom is being used. When you're done showering and shaving you could then close the other window and re-open the bathroom window.

I guess it depends on where you live. Here in Canada, central forced air heating solves the problem. However, 26 years ago when I lived in Finland, central heating wasn't found in all bathrooms, so I understand the cold air issue. A good terry robe would solve that problem possible, as suggested already.

I still think it's best to shave post-shower, and personally love the cold-water post-shave rinse as the colder weather hits. Nothing quite as refreshing imo.

A cold water rinse is not necessary. Warm is fine.
(If you have nicked yourself, cold water really helps - otherwise I don't like a cold rinse so I don't do it.)

If I close my bathroom window the fog will cover the mirror above the sink. It wouldnt matter much anyway if the window is closed or open when I use the bathroom.

Bathrobe is just not my style

BTW, I tried the bathrobe thing for the last shave and I found the collar interfered with shaving/lathering my neck.

While I actually turn the ventilation fan on, I will open the shower door (not the bathroom door) to steam up the bathroom. That way when I step out the shower it isn't cold. You end up with foggy mirrors, but at least it stays warm enough for me to shave.

As far as the cold water rinse goes, I will do a quick one just to get the alum residue off my face.

I use a hair dryer on my mirror after I shower. Gets rid of the fog in seconds.
