I've always pictured Gordon as being quite tweedy. With the goatee of course:

i'm not sure anyone's been able to get a clear photograph of the Duke...HOWEVER, here's a painting that many creditable sources believe is accurate if not the very portrait of the man himself!

if worse comes to worst we could always *persuade* Dominic (ichabod) with pucks of Trumper's Sandalwood for a snapshot or two at their next lunch meeting...

I found a pic of the real Gordon, but unfortunately it dates back to his pre-shaving time. Take a look!

Here's a very young looking Gordon standing in front of his first car.

I found this in the old SMF archives.

Bill

P.S. Funny thing, the automobile name was a Herbert.

Nice thread, good to put some faces on you guys. I'll have a go at it, with a little pre/post ShaveMyFace spin.

On the right, sporting a goatee, right before joining. My mother
hated this look, but ladies loved it, so it stayed until 'John 5' was born.

Image

A couple of months after joining, the goatee departed. Drowning in academic work late into the night, a little 5 o' clock shadow
starting to impede my thought process.

Image

A dab Coates Sandalwood and 10 minutes later, like new again. This picture reminds me of my days of shaving sanity. I had just two
brushes and a handful of creams. That 28mm knotted Kent that can be seen in the basked I had just acquired from Richard, and was my pride
and joy. It now hides alongside my Wee Scot and others, in some remote, dark corner, a happy place for the freaks, outcasts, and underused.

Image

Flash on and zoomed in reveals BBS. Those were the days of multiple passes and
exotic finishing techniques. That is history - I now enjoy simple, single pass shaves.

Image

Very recent picture, revealing how I usually look during or just prior posting here. My dog Max takes credit for all the unsavory,
late-night posts made throughout the years.

Image

Last but not least, I'll end this with my best Naomi Campbell impersonation. Key West or Islamorada this December, taken
unbeknownst to me by my fiancé hiding in the distance. And Kaveh, spare me any heat for my farmer's tan. 'Tis the winter,
so I have a pass 8).

Lies! No such thing. 'Twas an Austin A35 Countryman. Must have been that vehicle's own pet name. Gordon likes that kind of thing, when he's not polishing his teapots.

Clive, yes, my thoughts were exactly the same upon encountering this thread. We spend so much time poddling around here, it just adds another dimension putting a face were all those thoughts and threads originate from.

Just realized that my old post on this thread showed me with ponytail and mustache: both are gone now.

You look much better with the perm instead of the ponytail. Who's the guy with glasses next to you?

Ah, you're referring to my Shave Support Technician. When I travel, he flies with me (although back in coach, of course) with my shaving equipment and supplies, in a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist. At the hotel or resort, he tests the water for pH and hardness, so I can adjust my technique accordingly. When needed, he sets up custom lighting, sometimes a humidifier, anything that will optimize my shaving experience.

Occasionally he's permitted to make shaving recommendations, like a caddy might for a golfer -- but not very often. You know how they get if you're too permissive.
