What's your pre-shave prep?

Post by doleeo »

Well about 3 months into wetshaving, I've started focusing on my pre shave regimen.

What I do, is build my lather then apply some to my face, rub it in, and then apply a hot towel for a few minutes, refreshing the towel as necessary.

What's your pre shave prep?

I usually take a nice hot shower and rub on some Every Man Jack preshave from Target. It's good stuff. I like it.

My routine isn't that much different from yours. After I shower, I'll put a couple of hot face cloths on my face...then I'll lather, and put a couple of hot face cloths on top of that...lather again and shave.

Since I went to the lather-and-hot-cloths step, my shave has improved dramatically. In fact, you might try doing it twice if you are having some issues...

All the best,
Jack

Shower, warm brush up in sink with lather bowl while brushing my teeth, rinse, shave.
Regards,
Marty

I splash my face thoroughly with hot water, then lather on my face. It's the most time efficient prep I've tried.
I've never tried hot towels other than when being shaved by a barber. My barber was telling me, last time I was there, that he uses a hot towel each morning to prep his face. He soaks a washcloth/small towel in water and then microwaves it.

Shower, shave head in shower. Brush soaking in water filled mug.
Get out and head to sink, re-wet face with warm water and whip up my lather. Lather up, and shave.

I splash my face with sulphuric acid (hot of course), then I rub in some glass shards before getting a couple of wild ponies to trample all over my chin....BBS everytime.....honest.

Like Dominic, I simply splash lots of very warm water on my face, mix up the lather and then apply it to my face. Over the years I've tried all sorts of approaches, but nothing has worked as well, let alone better, then this most simple of regimens.

I agree with Gordon and Dominic. For me, keeping it simple works the best. A good face lather is really all I need. I usually shower before my shave, but as I discovered recently, even that isn't necessary. . .

Oh yeah. . . save all that money you were going to spend on pre-shave products and buy some good colognes 8)

Sissy. Wild "Ponies!?!" For a really close shave, everyone knows you need to have at least 6 Israeli Clydesdales and at least one good hunting dog chase eachother around your face. That's what I do. BBS every time. The US Clydesdales just don't do it.

Shower, then hot water on my face as the bowl is warming, and then lather and shave.

That's all.

Bill

Shower first, including a wash with a cleanser. Then splash some more hot water on my face after drying. I then apply Coral Skin Food while I make my final preparations to shave. Finally a good face lathering of my soap or cream of choice for that day.

I do this regardless of whether I shave in the morning or evening.

Hey guys,

For those of you who use a face cloth.. how do you go about it as I have normal sized face cloths but it is impossible to cover neck AND face.. I can only do one or the other..

Thanks

I focus on my neck, which is my problem area. But I think you'll find, if you spread your fingers, it'll cover most of your shaving area.

All the best,

1)Soak Brush in hot water
2)Shower and Wash Hair
3)Apply Pre-Shave (Feather, T&F, AOS, Taylor of Bond Street)
4)Wash Body allowing Pre-Shave to work its magic
5)Prep Lather (Soap or Creme) - Enjoy both equally
6)Shave in Shower
7) Alum Face/Neck
8) Clean Brush
9) Rinse Face in COLD water shower to rinse alum
10)After Shave
11)Moisturize
12) Look forward to next day's shave
