The always vexing question of popcorn toppings

Post by Leisureguy »

Lately I've been inclined to use:
butter
Lemon Pepper (McCormick's: includes salt---oops: it's Lawry's I use, I see---but I imagine McCormick's would work as well. Just to check to see whether it includes salt or not.)
grated Romano cheese

At other times I've tried
butter
salt
Old Bay Seasoning (or, alternately, chili powder)

Sometimes I add a sprinkling of cayenne pepper, regardless of what else I've used.

Any good ideas you've encountered?

Michael.. pop your corn in olive oil.(it CAN be done.. just keep the pot covered at all times to prevent smoking) Just a pinch of salt is the only topping you will need. Trust me... this is damn tasty corn when done this way.

I put it on after its popped but still warm and a good measure of kosher salt. Oddly enough my dog likes his popcorn the same way.

My roommate in college always used...onion dip. Let me add two things to that statement. First, he was always sober. And...it wasn't bad!

Randy (who has not had popcorn and onion dip since college!)

While growing up, I was introduced to Lawry's Seasoned Salt as a great topping for popcorn. It is good on fries too.

One of my favorites is to butter the popcorm with UNSALTED butter and then shake on WATKINS MUSHROOM SOUP MIX.

Instant Nirvana.

I might give Leisureguy's lemon pepper a go.
Of course popped in the Whirly Pop.

I also put it in smoothies, and mix it up with picante sauce.

Easy-peasy for me. Spray a bit of butter-flavoured Pam (or no-name equilvalent), some sea-salt and a bit of sour cream & onion popcorn dressing. The latter dressing is always an option for me, but the buttery flavour and sea-salt are a must. ymmv.

Alright Gents, you're talking to a popcorn aficionado here! I have a popcorn machine that makes the real, movie-theater style popcorn (you can get it wholesale).

Popcorn makes a great palette for flavor, from cheese to sweet tastes. My absolute favorite, after eating several truckloads of the stuff, is the Kernels Jalepeno-Jack seasoning (it's not really spicy - more like a nacho flavor) - you have to get it at the Kernels stores. A decent replacement is Kernels Nacho cheese flavor (mix it with their cheddar - even better).

I have used Lawrie's seasoning salt many times - it's very good (any seasoning salt is pretty good actually) - use it sparingly. Great if you pop your corn in olive oil in a pot - you can put the salt in with the popcorn, and get a good mix as it pops. A bit of butter and a few shakes of seasoning salt is also just great!

Other spices (garlic / onion powder) are OK, just use VERY little.

Best ... Steve

Once in a while, I'll mix equal parts salt and sugar(regular, white sugar... brown sugar just does not work) and a bit of ground red pepper. Then sprinkle that on the popcorn.
