Omega 11137
Cella Sapone*
Merkur "1904"
Dorco 301 #1
DR Harris Pink
Sel de Vetiver

*I've had irritation the last three times I used this, and well before blade hit beard. I have wondered if there's something about coconut oil as the principal lipid that bothers my skin, as Fitjar creams bother me but other shea-containing products don't necessarily. Coconut oil is normally a bit further down the ingredients list, but in Cella and Fitjar it is listed first. I have had similar problems with a bath soap that uses coconut oil as the primary fat, and I know Clint has posted about coconut oil being very problematic when used in excessive quantities. Either way, I love the shave but not the scent of Cella, and so the irritation tilts the scales toward selling. Very disappointing. It's tough to tell what it is in something that irritates your skin, I guess, and so I may never figure it out, because I thought it was shea, but perhaps not.

Cologne is a sample...very intriguing, but I'm undecided at this early stage of the day.

Sunday

Post by Leon »

I have a bunch of new stuff I decided to try in this Sundays shave.
Pre-shave:
Hot shower. Musgo Real Glycerin Lime Oil Soap. This soap left my face relaxed, moisturized and ready for the shave.
The Shave:
Grabbed my Semogue 2000 boar brush that I've been using exclusively for the last weeks and used a small amount of the Top Secret shaving cream. This scent is fantastic, but I really can't describe it. It smeels of a blend of lovely floral/woodsy scents.
I picked up my freshly honed Johann Briedohr «Breidora» straight razor to try it out. It has some spots on the blade as you can see, but the edge got wicked sharp and buttery smooth. Now I see why the «Les 3 Croix» razors from J. Breidohr are sold at such high prices.
One pass WTG, the second one XTG was enough for BBS.
Post-shave:
Musgo Real After Shave Balsam. It smells great and soothes the skin leaving it in great shave.

What a way to start a Sunday!

Sunday Shave

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Merkur Futur
Super Iridium
Speick Shave Stick
Simpson Colonel X2L
Dickinson’s Witch Hazel
Alt Innsbruck A/S Splash

Superb shave this morning--much better luck than the last time I used a shave stick. I think I’m getting the hang of it. My previous shortcoming, I think, was being impatient and not spending enough time working up the lather on my face. I don’t think shave sticks will ever become my “go to” method of lathering, but I enjoy learning a new technique.

The Alt Innsbruck provided a fine finish with a gently lingering fragrance. Very nice.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

old Fields brush
Kirby/Iridium
MWF
Lumene AS balm
TGQ 'Leatherneck' extrait

Another very fun shave with the Kirby. This razor feels differently on my face than any other razor I've used. Very slim profile head with a scalloped design makes the blade presentation a unique one.

Martin

Good Sunday all...

George Wostenholm & Sons Celebrated 5/8
Edwin Jagger Best Badger Brush
Erasmic sc
Dickinson's WH
Musgo Real a/s balsam
Knize Ten Edt

A pleasure to return to the ritual of the straight...a fine shave with no incidents. I still get better shaves with the DE and SE, especially on my neck, but with every straight shave I get a little more confident and a little better with my technique. I'm in no rush...and a great finish with the Musgo Real and Knize Ten.
