Chris, you forgot red pack Personnas.
Big exclusion as they are favovored by me and very many other shavers.

What you have my vote goes to Derby. I like mild and smooth blades and ones that are not too aggressive on my skin.

This is summer time so them sharper blades sure get more appreciation than if this was made as a winter poll.

Plenty of sharp blades on the market but very few are smooth.

Iridum supers are not only sharp, they're smooth.

Chris didn't list red personnas because he tried them with poor results. This is the flaw in these polls; everyone has a winner and endorsements only go so far.
Would I to be castaway on a desert island and a FEDEX package floated ashore containing; a Wieshi, Yeni perma sharps, Burt's Bees soap and patchouli I WOULD SHAVE.
* I'd use the patchouli as shark repellant fishing in the surfline.

To Chris. You are a relative newbie in shaving. My first blades were Swedes and compared to them Derbies got a so much tugging and bother, until I learned to shave better. And found what good blades they are.
And you are not excused of omitting Red personnas. what ever KAV told.

These Iridiums that all seem to favor this summer? Are they not just something resembling the famous Gillette Platinums? Meaning taking too much skin away when the weather gets really cold here up north and skin dries?

Nothing as drastic as Feather blade and quite ok, but with a bit irritation still?
I can sure get good shaves with even Feathers with the heat wave that has been going on here.

When weather gets colder it is not so. Think about this dudes and also why here are so much electric foil shavers in my country.

I'm surprised there are no votes for the Astra Platinum. I like them as well as the Iridium Super, except that they don't last as long. But the price difference accurately reflects this.

(I'm hoarding quite a few of them.)

If I had a 1, 2, 3, order, it would be:

1. Iridium Super
2. Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (Yellow)
3. Feather High Stainless (Yellow)

I like Feathers for an excelent shave, but only in a mild razor, such as a Tech or blue tip Super Speed. They are also short-lived.

+1 to this for me personally.

However, I say buy a pack of everything that rated in the double digits and given them a try.

Hi there,

You're right..........the Iridium is pretty darn close to those old Swedes. In the past, I was using those, (along with a Feather) as my go to choices for quite a while.

A couple years back I tried the Iridium and promptly sold my Swede stash. I think the Iridium is even smoother and sharper, and a LOT less expensive. Sorry they don't quite agree with your face.

Martin

Oh, you might like to try the Gillette SharpEdge sometime.

Gordon, wouldn't Schick Plus Platinums qualify as a favorite vintage blade?

The current production does not say Plus Platinums and are said to be inferior to the old Plus Platinums. I think the PP's are my preferred over old Wilkinsons.

So did I, although the Super Iridiums are very good as well.

I'd vote them 1, 2 as well

Scott, Yeah. After I posted the above I relented and voted for the Schick Platinums. They are, as you pointed out, one of the premium vintage DE blades and since they're the only one listed I did cast my vote for them. Haven't used them really in years, but they are a substantial part of my current reserve stash.

I went with Astra SP. Great price, and I've simply never had a bad shave with the blade.

There's actually a number of blades on the list that I get great shaves from, and a few that aren't (Lords, for instance). I suppose I'm lucky that way.
John.

I'll think of something clever eventually.

I'm a recent "convert" to Super Iridiums. I dearly love my Progress, with either IP's or (old) Derby's, but I can get equal results with an Iridium in a HD with no mid-shave adjusting (something I've never been able to do before). My razor rotation has gone from 90% Progress, 10% others (when the mood strikes) to about 50-50.

I've had generally good experiences with Swedes (both blade and airline stewardess variety), and would like to someday try the Plus Platinums in DE. (As an injector blade, they're terrific.) For something easier to find, 7 O'Clock Yellows.

1. Wilkinson "Light Brigades"
2. Wilkinson "Super Sword-Edge"
3. Gillette "Oslo Swede"

I have a stash of those Schick Plus Platinums, but haven't had a lot of good luck with them. I think the Iridium Super's are better performers.

I really do like the Iridiums but I have discovered through much use that it is actually my second favorite------my favorite is not listed here and that is the Kai blade. I need to get with Dridiot and get some more. If you have not tried the Kai, I suggest that you do.

Kai is in my top tier as well. Excellent blade.
