Traveling Wilburys. I can't remember which song but that line sticks in my mind. The first Wilburys album is fantastic.

And she buttoned her boot,
And straightened her suit,
Then she said, 'Don't get cute.'
So I forced my hands in my pockets
And felt with my thumbs,
A gallantly handed her
My very last piece of gum.

Silver Palomino
I'd give my riata and spurs
If I could be forever yours
I'd ride into the serrania where no one goes
For my silver palomino
Summer drought come hard that year
Our herd grazed the land so bare
Me and my dad had to blowtorch the thorns off the prickly pear
And mother, your hand slipped from my hair

Matamoros Banks
For two days the river keeps you down
Then you rise to the light without a sound
Past the playgrounds and empty switching yards
The turtles eat the skin from your eyes, so they lay open to the stars

Your clothes give way to the current and river stone
'Till every trace of who you ever were is gone
And the things of the earth they make their claim
That the things of heaven may do the same

Skylark by Johnny Mercer

Skylark
Have you anything to say to me
Won't you tell me where my love can be
Is there a meadow in the mist
Where someone's waiting to be kissed

Oh skylark
Have you seen a valley green with spring
Where my heart can go a-journeying
Over the shadows and the rain
To a blossom-covered lane

And in your lonely flight
Haven't you heard the music in the night
Wonderful music
Faint as a will o' the wisp
Crazy as a loon
Sad as a gypsy serenading the moon

Oh skylark
I don't know if you can find these things
But my heart is riding on your wings
So if you see them anywhere
Won't you lead me there
Oh skylark
Won't you lead me there
Cheers,

Craig

And if the homework brings you down
Then we'll throw it on the fire
And take the car downtown

She reached down and picked the gun up that lay smokin' in his hand

She said father please forgive me I can't make it without my man

And she knew the gun was empty and she knew she couldn't win

But her final prayer was answered when the rifles fired again

Boy -- it's hard to think of them just off the bat (especially for me; I can't think of other songs when other music is playing). Different lyrics resonate at different times for me. For a while, it was Dave Mason's "There ain't no good guy/there ain't no bad guy/there's only you and me/and we just disagree". (Yeah, not a strict one-liner, but at least a consecutive thought :D).

Lately, it's been Paul Simon's "[...] life is what you make of it/So beautiful or so what"

But ask me in half an hour. It probably will be something else.

Sort of related to the site

Cause you know what they say about honey bears
When you shave off all their baby hair
You have a hairy minded pink bare bear

Ah..."Seven Spanish Agnels"

Fantastic song! First verse is good, too...

Hat tip to my current collaborators Leiber & Stoller:

"Is that all there is?"

(sung incomparably by Peggy Lee).

Also someone points out that the last part of EVERY line of "American Pie" could be a movie title, e.g.

A Long Long Time Ago
Make Me Smile
If I Had My Chance
Happy For a While
If I Cried
The Levee
Whiskey & Rye
The Day That I Die
The Book Of Love
Dance Real Slow
You're In Love With Him
Dancin' In the Gym
On Our Own
How It Used To Be
Thorny Crown
Adjourned
You And Me
Dirges In the Dark
A Summer Swelter
Falling Fast
Sweet Perfume
What Was Revealed
Fists of Rage
Born in Hell
Satan's Spell
High Into the Night
Laughing With Delight

..and so on. Just looking at the "titles" you can see the movie in your mind.

(Actually that's another title: "The Movie In Your Mind". But, hey.)

Oh, and of course the Great Randy Newman, speaking for us all:

"You can keep your hat on."
