Gil, I'll loan you this one to try, if you are interested. As mentioned, the shave is super close and smooth, but after 5 days, I was noticing blood in places where there were no cuts, and several areas were feeling painful to the touch. I was using no pressure, and paying very close attention to the angle. I've been applying lotions and ointment since yesterday morning, and I think it'll be ready to be shaved again with a different razor tomorrow.

Like I said, its not something I would want to shave with everyday, its not very pleasant after a week is it?

But I do miss its precision and will be ordering one whenever Peter/Paul gets them back in stock.

No, but he is paying high rent due to the really nice shaves he's going to receive before he realizes he's skinned himself! :lol:

Aaron, I know Paul at Connaught Shaving well, but sorry I don't place the name Peter. Which vendor is he?

Last email I received from Connaught was signed Peter and not Paul I have no idea what the deal is.

I have one if you want to give it a try before you buy. A little too aggressive for my tastes...

I personally like the shaves the new 41 gives me. I noticed that it leaves my face feeling 'velvety' like my better str8s do. The stubble-out time is about the same as a str8 as well. I've not noticed any 'thinning' with str8s or the 41, but then my skin is fairly tough. FWIW, I'm using Astra platinums in the Muhle, and they're only lasting four shaves before getting objectionable.

I agree with the statement that I also personally like the shaves the Toothcomb provides. Strongly agree. Using it 5 days in a row resulted in random bleeding and soreness, and my skin is as tough as rawhide. This could have been a side effect of the Polsilver blade, but who knows? Using the Muhle razor loaded with a Personna HU blade in regular daily rotation with other DE and straight razors made me aware that the Muhle was providing as good, if not a bit more consistently smooth daily shaves as my best SR. It's out on loan right now, but whenever it returns to the roost, it'll be quietly reinserted into the full rotation.

i received the r41 that gary was kind enough to send as a loaner. i just want to say that i got a very close shave. it will mow down the difficult areas with whiskers like no other razor. i also want to say: THIS IS A WEAPON! IT IS NOT A RAZOR! IT NEEDS TO BE BANNED FROM IMPORTATION. IT IS A HAZARDOUS DEVICE!!! =;

The new R41 tooth comb is indeed aggressive but I find it very smooth when used with a super sharp Feather blade. Milder blades seem to cause more problems. I find the reverse is true when using the std Muhle/EJ closed comb head. In this "mild" razor I get better shaves from milder blades.

The R41 with a Feather is almost like using a str8. If you use a super light hand it delivers a phenomenal shave. I highly recommend it even if you don't typically like aggressive razors.

Does anyone know how the blade exposure of the R41 compares to a NEW or an Old Type?
