The Merkur HD is resting now after a few weeks of outstanding work.

Gillette '47 Aristocrat
Dorco 301 (1)
Kent BK4
Speick cream

More effort needed than usual for a two day growth. Two and a half passes.

Generous (and stingless) splash of Pinaud Bay Rum to celebrate anyway.

Sunday AM:

Blazingly hot towel 4x
Semogue 1438 Boar
KMF cool mint w/added menthol kick, face lathered
Gillette Black Handle SS
Polsilver Super Iridium (7 and canned)
Menthol AS

Some blades are pure pleasure to test, others are like driving wood splints under the nail. This was the former. A very nice blade for me. First I tested it in the mild razors with a good showing, then in the Slim set to 9 where it worked OK, but I got too many weepers with it. So I put it back into this razor to use the blade to 7 shaves or it got dull. It reached my limit of 7 shaves long before it got dull. I have no doubt I could have kept going to rack up more shaves from the blade.

Todays shave was an easy 2 pass + touchups BBS, and it was just as comfortable a shave as the first. This blade is on the very short list of DE blades I will buy. The others are Gillette 7O'Clock Yellows and Med Preps. All of my best blades have a few traits I insist on (in no particular order since they all must exist in the same blade) sharpness, smoothness, longevity. Obviously YMMV.

Sunday, November 27th

Razor: Merkur Futur
Blade: Polsilver
Brush: Thater Stout 1
Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
Soap: DR Harris Arlington
A/S: Floid Suave

I enjoyed another excellent shave with the Futur/Polsilver combination. By the end of the shave the blade was showing subtle signs that it was nearing the end of its useful life. I'll change the blade tomorrow. If I could only have one soap from here on out, I would be content to use DR Harris Arlington. It is excellent! The Floid aftershave felt great for what is turning out to be a very warm fall day (80 degrees).
