An elderly man and two children have been taken to the hospital following a hit-and-run accident near Silsbee.

The accident happened just before 4:00 this afternoon in the 9900 block of State Highway 418.

Hardin County Sheriff Ed Cain says that the man was escorting the children across the road after they had gotten off the school bus, when a pick-up truck driving in the opposite direction of the parked school bus hit all three.

The truck never stopped, but witnesses pointed the truck out to another motorist who followed the truck, calling police with the truck's location.

Hardin County Sheriff's Deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety State Troopers and officers with the Kountze and Silsbee police departments were able to intercept the truck's driver as he was pulling into his driveway.

The man was arrested by state troopers; authorities believe he was intoxicated.

Sheriff Cain says that Southeast Texas Air Rescue transported the youngest girl to a Galveston hospital in critical condition, while the man and the older girl were taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth by Acadian Ambulance
