Some New Somersets

Five more Somerset Simpson brushes have arrived from Peter: a genuine ivory, an Astor in Best, a Chubby 3 in Super, a butterscotch W2 in Best, and a 46 in Best. Into the rotation they go.

Nice brushes John. I guess Peter is making room for some newer acquisitions to his ever growing stable of brushes.

The shape of that first brush is unique. It looks kind of triangular?

No, it's not really trianglar. That's the ivory brush. The front is slightly more "angled," while the back side (with dark lines) is more rounded. And the left and right sides are slightly asymmetrical in size, really giving the brush a true handmade look. I don't know its story; perhaps Peter does.

I actually sold the first brush to DrP. The brush is kind of an oxagon shape and was a custom make by Simpsons.

The brush made quite a journey: UK to US, US to NL, NL back to US.
I hope you'll enjoy your new acquisitions John..

Thanks John for the pictures; really like the W2 and have never heard of that range. The Chubby is probably my favorite of all. Doug

That's right, Paddy!

John, I really like all of those that you bought. Great choices. The Chubby really stands out to me.

Nice set, congrats on the acquisition. I am drawn to those butterscotch colored handles. I suspect the they look nicer in person. Wonder why they stopped making them?

They didn't. It's a colour change that comes with years of aging of the catalin handle.

Thank you for the information. Some follow up suggests that the color change would not happen with all handles and likely not the current production handles as these are made from a different material.

The Chubby handle is wonderfully shapely, and the Ivory one an heirloom...I covet them all with green eyes.

Beautiful brushes John, and a quick reminder into the rich and glorious past of the Simpson history. There is no other brand to equal their fine contribution to man's daily shave.
