Gentlemen, today's shave was at 7:30, which is quite late for me, since I'm up at 4 a.m. daily. It was a good shave. The music was a recording by Jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli. One of the songs was "Jermyn Street," which was appropriate, since the cream I used is one of my preferred creams: Jermyn Street by Taylor of Old Bond Street. I love both the soap and the cream versions of Taylor's Jermyn Street. Incidentally, Stephane Grappelli formed the famous jazz quintet the Hot Club of Paris in 1932 with the gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt. Delightful music. Anyway, I thought I'd match the cream with the music — all part of the ritual.

Razor: Friedre. Herder 13/16 full hollow square point — one pass with the grain
Razor: Edwin Jagger octagonal in faux ebony — one multi-directional pass to clean up
Blade: Derby — one shave and out
Brush: Semogue 730 HD silver tip — a sweet brush without being killer dense
Cream: Jermyn Street by Taylor of Old Bond Street
Pre-shave: Castle Forbes
Scuttle: Schwarzweisskeramik
Alum
Witch hazel
Balm: Institute Karite
Aftershave: Woods of Windsor — have never been without this treasure of an aftershave
Music: Collection of jazz tunes, including "Jermyn Street," performed by Stephane Grappelli and others
Finisher: A blend of Sumatra and Mexican coffees and a visit with the diaries of Anais Nin

Pre-shave soap: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
Razor: Merkur Futur
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum
Brush: Thater Stout 2
Soap or Cream: Mitchell's Wool Fat
A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Alt Innsbruck Splash

A typically close and smooth shave with the Futur/Astra/MWF combo. The Alt Innsbruck, in addition to its fragrance, added to the already good skin feel. From start to finish, this was a great shave!

Sunday morning:

GFT rose cream
Simpson Special pure badger
OCMM
GEM Ted Pella 121-1 test blade
Gem SS ptfe (1)
Kramperts Finest Bay Rum

Blade test of another Ted Pella blade that I was sent. OK, so that didn't last long. It's a window scraper blade. I installed a good blade and I was off to the races.

Gentlemen, today's shave was a revelation:

That my Le Grelot in the black buffalo horn scales is about as sweet a razor in every way as I've had, and I've had some beauties.
That my handsome Muhle Stylo butterscotch DE must have been designed for me for absolute comfort and close shave.
That the matching Muhle Stylo butterscotch silver tip brush is a beauty in looks and an odd duck in function for being floppy with a handle that weighs a ton and is an ergonomic bust.
That the double edge blades Super Iridium and Gillette 7 O' Clock "SharpEdge" yellows share the crown in my humble shave den.
That Xpec original is an exquisite shave cream.
That Schwarzweisskeramik is the most perfect scuttle I have owned, and I have owned a series of scuttles.
And that today's shave was worthy of a king.

Razor: Le Grelot in the black buffalo horn scales
Razor: Muhle Stylo DE in the butterscotch handle
Blade: Super Iridium
Brush: Muhle Style silver tip in the butterscotch handle
Cream: Xpec original
Scuttle: Schwarzweisskeramik
Alum
Witch hazel
Balm: Coral Skin Food by Trumper
Aftershave: Zino by Davidoff
Music: Piano Concerto No. 3 by Rachmaninov
Finisher: Ethiopian Harrar coffee and the New York Times

Sunday AM - Happy Earth Day

Becker scuttle
Ach Brito Glyce preshave soap
Somerset Simpson L7 Best brush
House for Men HIS shaving soap
Feather AS razor
Dorco Stainless blade (Korea) (1)
Dolce & Gabbana aftershave

A good shave. The tips of the L7 look and feel more like modern-day Super than Best, but the hairs are a sort of strange 2-band, with the main part of the shaft brown rather than the usual black. The HIS is a pretty good old soap, not great. Finished off with my usual Sunday 100% Kona coffee.
