getting used to the new smf2 look
getting used to the new smf2 look
i'm having a little trouble getting used to the new look of smf. the old website made it easy to tell if a new comment was added to an existing post. i am having trouble seeing if a new comment has been added to a post. am i missing something? thanks

for me, looking 'right' for poster info takes time to get used to

The only small detail I wish had been added is maybe color-coding the sticky posts so they're visually set apart from the daily posts. It takes a whole extra second of eyeball searching 'cause they all blend in. No big deal. The new site is sharp.

Yes, I wish the stickies could be up with the Announcements. We'll have to keep the stickies pruned, as it does take some eyeballing to find the first current post.

glad to know I'm not the only one that needs to get used to the differences

I recognize everyone's voices, but you all look different.

What are the circles for next to each topic? Also, why do some of them have a vertical motion and others are still?
I find the vertical motion distracting. Is there some way to show the same information without the motion?

I believe it represents a scrolling page and indicates the topic is hot. phpBB 2 in the old site used to make them blink at you. The only way to change it to use a different skin.

I will look into alternative icon sets to see if I can find something preferable.drmoss_ca wrote:I believe it represents a scrolling page and indicates the topic is hot. phpBB 2 in the old site used to make them blink at you. The only way to change it to use a different skin.

Great! I can now pick out the new posts even without my glasses. Thanks, Vince.

The new site looks pretty good. What i am a little missing is having only white backround on posts.
It is no biggie and I remember when badger@blade changed, there was some option to have the old style as an option for viewing messages. Anyways thank you Vinnie for updating the forum and hope this makes the site more easier and safe for the admins to handle.

Chris,
Ok, I figured out what the circles signify. It does not signify that the topic is hot. The lines scroll with any topic that has 14 or more replies. It doesn't matter how recent or how long ago the last reply was. It is simply the number of replies.
Still would be nice to figure out a way to stop the scrolling.

Ken,
Vince has changed the threshold for a scrolling icon to 41, from 15. This means you will no longer be annoyed, but a casual visitor will assume the place is dead! We know better, of course!
