1921 Gillette Tuckaway
Feather blade
Simpson Case C1 brush
Vintage Old Spice shaving soap

It has been a while since I've used any Gillettes from the early 1920s because they've always been too aggressive for me (good dose of neck burn by day three). This was day two of using the Tuckaway, and it did feel a little raw on the neck. Despite using a very light touch. I think the heavier weight of the Tuckaway and, maybe, the shorter handle combined make it a more aggressive shaver.

Tuesday:

Gillette Model #58 & Schick Platinum blade
Simpson E3 ( vintage )
Trumpers Violet shave cream
D R Harris's Pink A/S
Taylors Sandalwood

I must say that I am just amazed by this little old brush. The bristle knot is rather small, it has a short loft, is not very densely packed, and it is rather dark in colour yet it creates large amounts of really top notch lather with this cream ( and I assume, with any high end English cream ). I don't know quite what to make of it...but I'm glad I have the little bugger ( to be fair, the knot is smallish but the handle is very nicely shaped for the hand and is about the size of an X2L handle ).

1921 Gillette Tuckaway
Feather blade
Simpson Case C1 brush
Mama Bears' Lime EO shaving soap

:|

The Tuckaway shaved well on the face. In order to avoid the dreaded "third day redneck", I tried the J-hook on the neck, as that tends to be a more mild approach. Well, it was more mild. And I ended up with a patchy shave job and a nick on the Adam's apple. :(

Which, pretty fairly, epitomizes my experiences over the years with Tuckaways and other razors from the early 1920s. While an issue of technique is not out of question, I just don't have these problems with other Gillettes or Schicks or Gems or Kampfes. Could just be a matter of those razors not liking me very much. :)
