I'm a Grandfather

Post by Straight Arrow »

My daughter gave birth to my first grandchild last Tuesday. A granddaughter. My wife and I spent the day with the new arrival and her Mom & Dad yesterday and I held her for the first time. Becoming a grandparent is a wonderfully satisfying and deeply moving experience like nothing I have ever felt. I can hardly wait to see her again.

Congratulations Rich,

I experience the same kind of excitement as you are now only it was 2 yrs ago. I did not get to meet my grand daughter until she was about 2 wks old as my daughter live half a country away. But we did get to spend a week with them. Loved every minute doing the housekeeping, laundry etc as she recovered from a hard delivery.

One tip though. Be careful when you hold your grand daughter. I found that during the week we were there that everytime I held her she seemed to suddenly become agitated and began give off this terrible smell. Of course my wife, daughter or son-in-law came to the rescue and took her off to the bathroom and took care of her. Once back in my arms she smelled kinda fresh and comfortable. What I'm saying is that grand daughter like to poop their diapers while grand dad is holding them.

One more bit of advice. Take lots and lots of pix and then load them onto your smartphone. How wonderful it is to show-off that cute little bundle of joy to all your friends and co-workers.

Congratulations.

This past weekend we have spent it with children and our only grandchild at the moment at the seaside. Truly nothing like being a grandparent. As Squire notes -- it only gets better.
