Recovering a razor case

Let's talk about single and double edged razors and the blades that they use.

Recovering a razor case

Post by DavidB »

I have a couple of Aristocrat razor cases (the individual gift boxes, not the display cases for multiple razors) and the leather exterior and inside lining are in marginal shape. The lining looks like it could be replaced with new material, if one exercised some care. But the leather covering is another matter.

Has anybody tried to recover razor cases? Know anybody who does this? Cost would probably be high, but figured I'd look into it. There are a lot more mint-condition razors than mint-condition cases.

Or have you come across some nice decorative boxes that could be modified for use as a nice display box or carrying case? I suppose I could always try making one out of hardwood.

Dave, a custom upholstery (sp?) shop may be able to refurbish the leather case but then again I don't know.

Or try a book binder. They're used to working in fine small leather.

Cliff, I think you're onto something with that bookbinder idea. That's the kind of leather and the right size of job.

Cliff, I restored the metal case to it's original condition, give or take some minor wear. I replaced the purple velvet with some more appropriate male styled classic black. (read between the lines "crushed purple velvet was more expensive at that store...)

I am very pleased with how the case turned out. It turned out from a $15 ebay chance to something I would be hard pressed to part with now.

Hope this helps.

I REALLY like the engraving, especially the engraving on the handle of the razor. I have never seen that before.

Great job on the renewal by the way. Excellent.
