Gillette blade problem

I have some old gillette blades that come in a metal holder. Is there an easy way to slide the blade out? I dont know why they make it so difficult....either that, or I am super dumb, or there is a secret method I dont know about. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

My experience back then was that there is a window on one side of the metal case where you can see the blades. There is a slot in one end and the blades or case had an arrow pointing to the slot. I just put my thumb against the top blade and pushed it out the slot. Is that what you mean?

Exactly, Pete, however the blades do NOT slide out very easily.....its a real chore to get a blade out

If the holder is old the glue of the blades are dried so its nearly imposible to come out i use acetone to liquid the glue.

Throw the entire thing in a container of rubbing alcohol that will cover it. Wait at least 20 mins. and they will slide right out. The original packing oil has dried solid locking them in place. The alcohol will not harm the blades nor their coating.

According to the CDC 20 mins. in 70% isopropyl alcohol will kill 99.99% of the creepy crawlies as well. Not 50% & not 90%, but 70%.

WD40 is a water dispersant, that's what the WD stands for, and it is mostly kerosene.

I had a few packs of Gillette Spoilers from about 1974 where the first blade or two were nearly impossible to get out. Using a small pen knife,
I was able to get between the top and second blade through the center slot. Working between the blades gave enough separation so that I
could slide the blade out. After the first blade or two, the rest slid out easily. Gave me an excuse to use up the Spoilers.

cannot thank you gents enough. I'm going to buy some rubbing alcohol today and give that method a whirl. Theres something about knowing wd40 was / could be near my face that gives me the heeebeeejeeepeeees lol......will use as a last resort!

btw, and off topic, when i first got these blades several years ago I was totally unimpressed and actually gave several of the boxes away to other members......fast forward to today and I'm thinking its best blade evahh made Thankfully I still have several boxes stashed away

Any solvent should work, even cheap vodka, but my go to is acetone.

I drowned a pack in rubbing alcohol....better than before but still not as easy as opening a personna

Or spray them with WD40.

Remember the sage advice for 90% of all household maintenance:

If it moves and it shouldn't ... gaffer tape.

If it doesn't move and it should ... WD40.

ok, if you use wd40 where is optimum place to spray?? from the top where your thumb would move the blade, or from the side where the blade would be dispensed

Whatever you do, be careful pushing a stuck blade with your thumb. I once sustained a pretty mean cut when I forced it to hard and the center slot sliced into my thumb.
