Yardley Black Label. I have not been tremendously impressed with other vintage Yardley shaving soaps, but this one is great.

I used Avon Skin So Soft shaving soap for the first time. It was cheap, so I'm not really surprised that it dried very quickly on my skin, losing its cushion and glide before the end of a razor pass. It definitely does not measure up to the vintage Avon in a wooden bowl that I use. I'll give it another couple tries, but then it probably will be relegated to shower duty.

D.R. Harris Sandalwood shaving soap. It produces good lather, which tends however to dry out a little too quickly during passes. The scent is great, as is the skin care post-shave.

Today's shave marks 48 consecutive days of using the Cella Extra Extra Purissima soap (1/4 of the whole 1000g brick). Total of 59 shaves on this 250g chunk so far. Lovely tallow soap. I can easily see how the whole brick might last almost a year all by itself.

Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet shaving cream. I had used this in the past and wasn't really impressed, but then I decided to try it again, and this time I like it more. Its scent is light and pleasantly citrusy/woody, and it has great post-shave skincare properties.
"Blenheim Bouquet was launched in 1902. Top notes are lavender, amalfi lemon and lime; base notes are musk, pine and black pepper."

Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary shaving soap. A vegetable oil soap, it claims to have no palm oil (forest protection); no preservatives / chelators / antioxidants of chemical origin; no petroleum, mineral oils, dyes, parabens; and no EDTA, SLS, BHT, SLES, or PEG. I wish the scent, "aquatic, floral and aromatic, with woody base notes and amber," and somewhat faint, were more pronounced. The soap lathers fairly well, has moderate longevity, and moisturizes my skin quite well. All in all, after just a couple uses, I'd call it good but not great.

Le Père Lucien Traditionnel shaving soap. This was around my second use of this soap, and I still am working to dial in the water:soap ratio to get good lather; it seems to require quite a lot of water, added slowly. I am not really fond of the scent, which to me just seems kind of musty, but I'll give it a little more time before coming to any conclusions.

Vintage Yardley Black Label shaving soap. "Black Label by Yardley is a woody chypre fragrance for men. Black Label was launched in 1967. Top notes are bergamot, amalfi lemon, orange and lemon verbena; middle notes are lavender, geranium, brazilian rosewood and clary sage; base notes are vetiver, sandalwood, patchouli and oak moss." It has a pronounced lavender tone for me, with citrus highlights, similar to but more masculine than Yardley English Lavender. It is more fragrant than other old Yardley soaps and lathers just as beautifully, making for a great shave.

Vintage Ralph Lauren Safari shaving soap. For me this is not the easiest soap with which to build lather, but once the process is going well, the lather is very rich and creamy. An excellent old soap.
