Famous American Quotes/Tidbits on Wetshaving

Post by CheapShaveCrew »

Just wanted to share these, as I really love these little tidbits:

“If you teach a poor young man to shave himself, and keep his razor in order, you may contribute more to the happiness of his life than in giving him a thousand guineas.”
— Benjamin Franklin

One of President Roosevelt's last visitors, outside of the physicians and his family, was John Gerardi, a barber. Colonel Roosevelt usually made a practice of shaving himself, but since he has been ill, he has been visited regularly by Gerardi.

Any other cool wet shaving/famous people facts or quotes out there?

Welcome to SMF, Don!

I've seen the quote from Benjamin Franklin but I didn't know the one about President Roosevelt. Thanks for posting them.

I would respectfully offer this gem, for your consideration ---

Profound, no? :) I wonder how most of us will react when we realize we could be experiencing that last mile.

Arthur Conan Doyle, while in medical school, was financially strapped and had to make do with a poor quality razor that wouldn't hold an edge. He commented one of the first things he did after qualifying as a Doctor was buy a good razor.

I always enjoyed the quote from (now deceased) Congressman Jack Kemp: "Winning is like shaving; you do it every day or you wind up looking like a bum."

But did he know when to stop? (And did he ever reveal that secret?) :D

Genesis 41:14 --- Then Pharaoh sent and called for Joseph, and they hurriedly brought him out of the dungeon; and when he had shaved himself and changed his clothes, he came to Pharaoh.

An old boss, 50 years ago, said "The distance between a gentleman and a bum is the thickness of a razor blade." I've remembered that for many years.
