Hi guys my first post

Post by spookmeister »

I'm very new to DE shaving, my wife texted me that my EJ DE89BL arrived today so when I get home I'll be giving it a shot with a Derby blade that comes with it. I had a Weishi that I returned a week ago because it wasn't working right, and upgraded to the Edwin Jagger.

I'll post later to let you know how I did LOL [-o<

Rob, I use the EJ89L as my go-to razor - it's a bit different than your, but the shave is fantastic!!

You will enjoy it.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I'm pleased to say that my shave went great, super smooth razor. I used Proraso Green and Nivea fresh kick balm with Old Spice to finish up.

OK here it comes. Haven't said this in quite some time, but pay attention:

We are a group of "Eccentric Preferential Wet Shaving Enthusiasts" and Wet Shaving is a YMMV project.

Preparation, Preparation, Preparation.
Technique, Technique, Technique.
Let the razor do the work...
No pressure, No pressure, and No pressure. Remember, It's not a race, it's your face.
What's the hurry, take your time "AND",
ENJOY YOUR SHAVE.

As far as the forum is concerned, "Come often, stay long, and enjoy."
Ask all the questions you have and make comments as you see fit.
A different perspective is always welcome...

It went much better last night, thanks for the advice.

I was indeed putting too much pressure on the razor, I'm used to cartridges. A bit of a learning curve, but I like shaving now instead of dreading it. My wife likes the smooth cheeks too :)

Glad to hear of the progress, Rob. Pressure is definitely a problem when applied to a DE razor.

Another hint: When in doubt about the angle of the blade (if you're not sure it is cutting most effectively), try rocking the razor ever so slightly towards the dome (lifting the safety bar from the face).

Good luck!

If you use a safety razor you don't need to put pressure while shaving. Because the handle of the safety razor has some weight. Because of this weight you don't need to put pressure and you can get a smooth shave with less irritation.
