First shave with my recently acquired Gillette New Shortcomb (yesterday). Cleaned and sanitized, the razor delivered a smooth DFS to both face and dome with a first-time new blade. Great shave, with a wonderful razor. The jury is out as to whether I prefer this razor to my silver plated Gillette New Standard. The blade is sharp and smooth, and reminds me of my Kai blades. I’ll have to try them in the AS-D2 to see if they perform as well in that razor. In any case, this razor is currently going into the rotation. I feel clean, smooth and refreshed.

SOTD 11/18/19

RAZOR: Gillette New Short-comb
BLADE: Suneko SS
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a face and noggin scrub with PAA’s Charcoal-Menthol Cube Pre-shave Soap
BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with MWF followed by Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel and finished with Fine Snake Bite AS Splash

Excellent face and dome shave today with what is quickly becoming my favorite razor, my Colonial Silversmith. The razor is so nicely weighted and balanced in the hand. The only disconcerting part of the experience is the lack of auditory feedback. But boy does it deliver the goods! BBS on both face and noggin!

RAZOR: Colonial Silversmith
BLADE: Suneko SS
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a face and dome scrub w/ PAA’s Charcoal-Menthol Cube Preshave Soap
BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
CREAM: Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash w/ TOOBS brush residue followed by Thayers Lavender Witch Hazel and finished w/ Fine Snake Bite AS Splash

Great 3 Pass face BBS. The Barbasol Floating Head shaved smoothly, but not as efficiently as I would like. My R41 and Colonial Silversmith are both much more efficient allowing a 2 pass BBS. The Cryogen AS had me holding the side of the sink after applying it as clouds of incredibly strong menthol kept my eyes watering for 10-15 minutes afterwards! Wow!! I’ve got to get the matching soap puck!

RAZOR: Barbasol Floating Head
BLADE: Suneko SS
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by face scrub with PAA’s Charcoal-Menthol Cube Preshave Soap
BRUSH: Omega Pro84 Boar
SOAP: Tabac
POSTSHAVE: Cold water face wash with Tabac soap brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished (or should I say gassed) with Chiseled Face Cryogen AS Splash

SOTN Friday
Two and a half pass BBS
  • rasor - '46 Aristocrat
    blade - QShave Titanium (7)
soap - First Canadian "Barber Shop Taper Fade" (original formula)
    brush - Stirling 2-Band Synthetic
post - warm water rinse, "Pure & Natural" Alum stick, cold water rinse
AS - Stetson AS Balm (from a 25-year old bottle)
music - streaming Gem Radio New Wave
    body count - 2 (houseflies)
The QShave blade is lasting longer than I expected. To nights ago (shave #6) I used it in a single-Ring Old, and it really dragged. I almost tossed it then, but thought I'd try it in a rasor in which I had previously gotten good results from it. Shave #7 was much better than #6.

First shave with my new/old Cooper Monobilt! Effortless three pass BBS. I’m in love with a 90 yr old razor! Go figure! Did not do the dome today; it’s still healing from it’s fracas with the OneBlade. It should be ready for the Jones Shakesharp tomorrow. What a great shave! I could hear the Cooper singing as it mowed down my whiskers. Great razor! I’ve been using Suneko blades for the last week or so! They’re great! Sharp and smooth! I prefer them over Polsilvers. And price-wise, 10 bucks for 100! Can’t beat that with a stick.
