SOTD FRIDAY, JULY 31, 2020
Same old, same old! DFS in three careful passes (WTG, ATG, XTG) on the mug further elevated into the ‘velveteen zone’ thanks to the Feather Super equipped RazoRock Hawk V3. Still struggling with straight razor stubble reduction. Minor right cheek weeper on my third and final XTG pass which disappeared after my MWF wash with the brush squeezings. The Hawk made short work of the noggin stubble in two passes (WTG, ATG) leaving me again velveteen, clean and cool!
RAZOR: DD Goldedge (Mug), Hawk V3 (Dome & Mug Cleanup)
BLADE: Feather Super AC
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
BRUSH: Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute w/ 24mm Synthetic Knot Ferrule
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Mentholated Mysterium Serum.

Friday SOTN - Further exploration of the PIF contents.
razor - RazoRock Old Style
blade - Shaverboy Stainless Steel SP (2)
soap - RazoRock "For Chicago" (new to me)
brush - Stirling 2-Band Synthetic
post - warm water rinse, "Pure & Natural" Alum stick, cold water rinse
AS - Proraso Blue Balm (new to me)
music - CHMA FM campus radio, "Friday Night Sock Hop"
Excellent results tonight. A painless BBS.
Still liking the Shaverboy blade, but it's early yet.
The RR "For Chicago" soap was very nice. "...Contains Tallow, Shea Butter, Argan Oil, Aloe Vera and Lanolin." Easy to lather with a bit of blooming during the prep shower, quite slick. I'm not sure what to make of the scent. Sort of "nutty"?
Their description: "The best way to describe For Chicago's scent is masculine floral. It has a clean mandarin/citrus top note with some 'white floral' (jasmine/gardenia) and amber mid notes. There is a small amount of wood, leather, and powderiness to the dry down."
Okay. I like it for a change of pace, but I'm not sure I would go out of my way to get the matching aftershave.
Proraso Blue AS Balm - slight greasy feel for a few minutes (as expected of most balms), but it dried nicely. It didn't have much of a scent that I could tell, so I might save it for when I want to follow it with an EdC.

Jagger Silvertip Synthetic
Whatever was in the Mug of Accumulated Soap Pieces
Late 40s Gillette Super Speed
Polsilver blade
Generous application of Swiss Pitralon aftershave
Second time with an evening shave as opposed to the early morning standard. Maybe I just like to remove the day's crud from my face, if not my consciousness.

There's a new brand name - "Moasp".
Tagline is "No matter what you liked before, you're bound to like this at least a bit."
Saturday SOTN - Further exploration of the PIF contents.
razor - British Aristocrat Junior
blade - Shaverboy Stainless Steel SP (3)
soap - RazoRock "Don Donato" (new to me)
brush - Simpson Special 1
post - warm water rinse, "Pure & Natural" Alum stick, cold water rinse
AS - Jeris Osage Rub (new to me)
music - CHMA-FM 106.9 campus radio
Shaverboy blade - is still okay.
RR Don Donato soap - as good as the other RR tallow soaps. Scent is faintly barbershoppy, top note of Bergamot? It appears to have been discontinued, but one reviewer compared it favourably to RazoRock's "xXx".
Jeris Osage Rub - Technically, I've tried this before, but that sample vial was too small to really go to town with it, so not a fair trial. The bottle mine came in (from the PIF box) had no flow restrictor, so I ended up with a lot on my hand. SWMBO thought the scent was "interesting". I thought it was pepperminty, more than menthol. That's fine.

SOTD SUNDAY MORNING, AUGUST 2, 2020
Well it’s Day 2 of “Aurum-inspired” August and my shave today featured two golden tools, the head of my Shake Sharp Model 1.5 and the gold lettering on the blade of my evil Dovo Special! The Dovo was definitely sharper than it had been thanks to the ministrations of my son’s sharpening toys. He even pulled out a loop to demonstrate the “mirror” sheen on the edge he’d created for me. I’m still convinced, however, that it's out to get me. I may require a razor exorcism in the future. I still have no idea what straight shavers, like my son, are referring to when they describe a straight razor’s edge as ‘buttery’ or like ‘velvet’. It’s just scary sharp to me.
Thankfully, it was another great mug shave, due to my trusty Shake Sharp! Despite my old nemesis, the Dovo’s, attempts to bite me, I persevered, and with great trepidation, finished the Mug shave with the usual unsatisfactory three pass (WTG, ATG, XTG) DFS. Fortunately, my trusty Shake Sharp rushed to the rescue shearing away the resistant facial stubble, and in its usual effortless manner opening the door to velveteen facial bliss! My two pass (WTG, ATG) Dome shave was a joy, after the fear and anxiety of the mug straight shave, delivering your grateful narrator directly to MWF paved velveteen happiness with another VBBS. I feel velveteen smooth, clean and cool!
RAZOR: Dovo Special (Mug), Shake Sharp Model 1.5 (Dome)
BLADE: Stacked Suneko DEs (4)
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Rabid Banana Preshave Cube
BRUSH: MrEE Knurled Aluminum Hybrid Knot
SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat w/ 6 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Humphreys Lilac WH and Osage Rub. Finished with A&E Post-Shave Serum.

Sunday SOTN - Further exploration of the PIF contents.
razor - RazoRock Hawk
blade - KAI Captain Titan Mild (1)
soap - Captain’s Choice “Bay Rum” Shaving Soap (new to me)
brush - un-branded "Made in West Germany" boar
post - warm water rinse, a dab of styptic pencil, "Pure & Natural" Alum stick, cold water rinse
AS - Pinaud Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum (new to me)
music - streaming "Surf Rock Radio"
I decided to get it over with at the same time. I do not like Bay Rum scents, but I thought I'd give the soap and the aftershave a chance anyway. My earlier experiences were with "Bay Rum & Lime" soaps.
The performance of the soap was half way between "meh" and "okay". I've been spoiled by the tallow-based soap the past couple of nights.
The aftershave smelled pretty much the same as the soap - too much clove or cinnamon or both. When I smell those I expect a ham or a cake at the end.
I offered my cheek to SWMBO to sniff, and her pronouncement was "I don't care for that". I said "me neither". I was hoping that a few hours later, the base notes would mellow out to something more pleasant (which happens sometimes), but no such luck, even without the Lime element.
Bay Rum is not for me. Now I'll have to find someone else to PIF them to. I have a friend who says he likes all Clubman aftershave products. Maybe I can trick him into accepting them both.
The new KAI blade seemed a bit harsh this time, even though I pointedly "rode the cap". A few teeny weepers in the usual places. That's not been my experience in the past. Perhaps I can blame the soap.
Yeah - that's the ticket.
