For Wednesday, and continuing on the QED shave soap theme, it was QED Special 218 soap applied with a an SR pure badger brush and topped off with some CF Gentleman's Cologne.
Cheers,

Isn't the 218 a great soap? I used it Monday and really, really liked it.

Wednesday:
SCS shave oil
SCS Brush
Honeybee Almond soap
'74 Superspeed
Derby Extra blade
Thayers rose witch hazel
GFT Coral Skin Food
GFT Spanish Leather
All the soft water was gone by the time I got the chance to shave.
That's why I used the oil.
Got an ok shave, but feels a little tight.

Thursday:
The "new" Gillette slim adjustable (5,5,5,3)
Plisson HMW
Musgo Real
Small scuttle
Alum
Coral SF
Comptoir du Sud-Ouest Vanille-Café
Not quite BBS but I smell like a Parisian breakfast.
A Parisian breakfast with a flat battery in its Volvo. (What's Swedish for "I thought these damn cars were supposed to be rugged so how come the battery is flat just because I left the lights on all night"?)

Thursday: (excuse the long commentary)
Tabac soap
Boar brush
Merkur HD w/ Feather
QED A/S lotion
Musgo Real No. 3 Spiced Citrus
In hair: Groom & Clean
Excellent results today with 2 passes.
First time to use the excellent Tabac; it gave a superb lather that was dense, cushioning, soft and slick -- and the scent is top-notch. I look for this to become a staple in my rotation. (Sourced from Charles at QED.)
First use also of the QED A/S lotion. I applied this directly to damp skin immediately after patting dry with the towel; the lotion sank right in and left my skin soft and well moisturized. This is an interesting product; it contains umpteen different oils and is very emollient, but it absorbs quickly and somehow is not greasy. Another winner from Charles.
And again, today was my first use of the Merkur HD, which I prefer to the 1904. The heads are about the same as far as I can tell, but the beefier construction of the HD provides better heft and substance. The plating and knurling on the HD are very clean, and overall it seems better manufactured than my 1904. Funny that it took me a year and about 16 razors finally to come around to the HD. My daily razors now are the HD, the Progress, and the Feather AC.
The Groom & Clean is good stuff; it provides weight and a little control for hair, but in small amounts is not greasy or stiff. I don't need heavy-duty hold, but my hair does tend to "poof" out with nothing to weigh it down a bit. The G&C does just what I need. I love the scent, too, which is a classic clean grooming fragrance -- nondescript, but nice.

It's been a while since my last SOTD post, but I've been switching products lately and I'd thought I'd shave some of the less common ones.
Generic pure badger
Proraso pre
Gold Dachs Spezial (purchased as Revivage)
Feather AC RG/ Pro Super blade.
Thayer's WH Rose
Nivea regular mixed with Jason Tea Tree gel.
The Gold Dachs was absolutely fabulous. My brush isn't particularly stiff, but it did a bangup job with this soap. Impressive lather, but it seems somewhat less cushioning than creams. Lubricity is just excellent. Scent is pleasant enough, but really not heavy at all. "Williams done right" really springs to mind.
It reminded me of my Williams days enough that Witch Hazel just seemed right today. Lately, I've taken to skipping this, as the Tea Tree gel has WH in it, but I wanted it today.
I like the Nivea regular. I haven't tried the sensitive, but the alcohol hasn't given me any problems. I've taken to mixing it up with a dab of the Tea Tree. Don't know why.
All in all, one of my better shaves.

Thursday
Merkur Progress
Wilkinson sword blade
Rooney medium style 1 super brush
Honeybee Amber soap
Thayers witch hazel
Booster's Mosswood AS
I started up my new bowl of C&E Sandalwood soap after having it for a long time. The lather is very pitiful, just like their Sienna soap, it will now be used as a bath soap. The Sienna and Sandalwood bowls will now be used for the Trumper Rose and Sandalwood soaps I have on order. I switched to the Honeybee soap and got an excellent shave once again. This proves it is the soap and not the brush or the razor or my technique.

I've had mixed feelings about this soap. I used C&E Sandalwood yesterday with my FAC and I had a great shave. The lather was creamy, thick, and the scent was quite pleasant. I remember using this soap with a DE and it wasn't lubricating enough. I've always thought that DEs require more lube because there is more contact with the skin (safety bar, blade, razor head, and blockage to deal with). I think using less water in the brush will help thicken the lather up on this soap, which also provides a better shave when using a straight.Nitrox wrote:

I probably would have sold it already, but is was a Christmas present last year from my wife. I'm glad I still have it though.
