Have you tried their Vetiver? I'm getting Vetiver-curious, so to speak. Also, I like the descriptions and reviews I've seen of Etro Vetiver.

Feather Artist Club DX - Injector Blade
The Wilkinson Sword Razor - Israeli (clean up)
Kent T12
Kent Soap
Harris Milk

Still learning to handle the Feather properly, it is going well, I can go against the grain but still have a couple trouble spots. I burned my upper lip a bit though. I suppose the Injector blade must be forgiving because I haven't done too much damage to myself. :)

Hello Ben,

No, I have not tried their vetiver (yet). I use L'O Vetyver right now. SMN Vetiver and SMN Russian Cologne are on my to-buy list. I am also considering Floris Vetiver.

This SMN Potpourri is still detectable after almost 11 hours.

Cheers,
Richard

Richard: You are right, that SMN Potpourri really lasted well on me, in fact, I would say it is one of the longest lasting colognes I ever wore. It was one scent that I described as a "car wreck" - all sorts of things coming together at first dissodently, but then mellowing out and you can make out the notes. I had a 30ml decant of it and ran out

Hello Sam,

SMN Potpourri is one of my favorites. I also have SMN Verbena. This is the opposite end of the spectrum. I need at least 12 spritzes in my chest (only place I apply fragrance) to make it last maybe 2 hours?

Like I mentioned earlier to Ben, SMN Vetiver is on my short list as is SMN Russian Cologne. Bottles are US$85.00 at:

http://www.lafcony.com/smn/

Plus, they have lots more SMN products, all fairly pricey, but undoubtedly excellent.

Cheers,

Richard, the local place that carries Creed was discontinuing SMN products. He gave me a white bottle and said help yourself to a decant of any fragrance that is a tester (you could unscrew the atomizer) and he suggested Potpourri of what was left. Wow, first five minutes on, it was a melange of scents and really I had no idea of what it was trying to accomplish. But that scent just wore, and wore, and eased up and eased up, and by golly, in three or four hours, it was where it needed to be and lasted well into the evening. I need to revisit it

Sam, You actually had a store in Memphis that carried SMN fragrances?! Incredible. They are absolutely unheard of here. Yes, SMN Potpourri...well, if you said that you couldn't smell that one, I'd pronounce you as dead ( chuckle ). That stuff is seriously..a....potent.

Ben, Richard - the Santa Maria Novella Vetiver is lovely. It is milder than some vetivers that can be pungent woody/herbal. On my skin, after that initial aromatic dry woody punch, it dries down to a fresh floral scent that is somewhat reminscent of the Pot-pourri (more subtle) and just a touch of powder. The vetiver remains, but it's subtle.

A nice one on the other end of the spectrum--aromatic herbal dry woody--is Fredric Malle Vétiver Extraordinaire, which to me smells like a stripped down version of Trumper Wild Fern.

Ok, my Friday SOTD:
  • Gilette 40s Super Speed / Swedish Gillette blade
  • Weleda cream (great "natural" ingredients. nice scent. ok lather. could use more slip)
  • Small Moss Scuttle
  • D.R. Harris H1 best badger
  • Rose hydrosol
  • Rosehip seed oil/kukui nut oil blend with EOs
  • Santa Maria Novella Cittá Di Kyoto (new & excellent)

Rooney style 1 small finest
Harris Arlington soap
Moss Scuttle
Illinois strop
7/8 Wade & Butcher "Barber's Rattler"
Pinaud Clubman A/S

My first shave with a Wade & Butcher, and I'm impressed. This one is a big half-ground blade that still feels balanced and nimble. Great shave.
