Hello from West Wales Uk

Post by Wills01 »

Hi there, i have been wet shaving with de razors from 1959, i was 11 years old at the time. Used straight razor to begin with, but stuck with safety razors for most of the time. Plenty of razors here, all the usual suspects to hand. Prefer adjustables mostly, set on max. I am cursed with a wiry stubble and quite sensitive skin, this has seen to it that i had to be meticulous about prep.

Taught to shave back in 59 by two uncles and my dad. My grandfather on my mum's side also had an input. He was truly expert with a straight, a pleasure to watch, an inspiration also. They were all extremely strict about how things were to be done. But it has paid off in spades. I have taught quite a number of people to shave over the years. Looking after the kit falls into that too. Just remember, not all shavers of yesteryear were great shavers, quite the opposite, in fact.

I hope you will give me the opportunity and great pleasure to pass on the knowledge i have garnered in 50+ years of de shaving.

All the very, very best to each and everyone of you
Wills.

Welcome to SMF Wills, too many of don't get taught to shave by anyone, we just stumble along blindly occasionally getting lucky (or not). I look forward to hearing any knowledge or experience you can pass on.

Bore da, Wills! Where in west Wales are you? My parents lived for a few years near Llanybydder, and my grandparents for many years just outside Newport, Pem.

Willis,

Welcome to SMF. I have been wetshaving for a long, long time but not as long as you. Started in like 1964 with much help from my favorite uncle. Dad was an electric guy and I could not get used to the electrics. Even with that much experience I am never too old or experience to learn something new. That I did here at SMF and I am waiting to hear from you with some more great info about how to improve my shaving experience.

My word, what a lovely welcome. It's very nice of you all. A very nice collection of wet shavers you are for sure.
To answer a couple of questions. I live not far from Carmarthen in west wales. I have not used a straight or cut throat razor for yonks. I have no plans for doing so at this time.

Once again thank you all for the nice welcome. I apologise for starting a new shave of the day thread a while back, i feel sure that such a nice bunch of people will forgive me for that.

All the very, very best
Wills.
