My 14-year-old son's first shave!
My 14-year-old son's first shave!
I can't say if he will get on this forum or not, but....
He did his first shave this morning!
I set him up with:
A Gillette Tech w/plastic handle
Gillette 7 O'clock "yellow"
Omega 10066 boar brush
Provence Sante Green Tea soap
Witch Hazel for a/s
He did a good job and only had one weeper, which was due to a pimple.
It was fun, to say the least!

Maybe a little older. I had been holding on to the shaving items for some time and it was really fun for me. I think it made him feel a little older.JRTASTER wrote:He's on his way!

We did a practice lather and shave without a blade, then the real thing.

He may not realize the value of it now, but you're teaching him something extraordinary that will serve him well in the future. You're both lucky to have this opportunity together.

That is so true. I do not remember if my dad taught me the first time, or if I just decided to go after it on my own. I do remember using a G1 or similar Schick injector, which was my dad's razor. He later got a Super-Speed for me. And I am sure he gave me some instructions. As I recall, I used canned shaving cream and often cut myself. Glad to start my boy with a brush and soap.
Best,
Roger

Beware reaction formation.
I gave my son a Gillette Knack, and some Merkur and Feather blades. He had Vulfix brush and a mug of Colonel Conk Bay Rum.
This is how he turned out:
Just be aware that it happens, sometimes.

Re: My 14-year-old son's first shave!
Indeed. In due time I taught both my sons to shave with a brush, trad. cream, and a 'real' razor. When they went off to college ( the older one with a nice T&H/Vulfix 2234 and a pot of T&H Lavender cream ) they both started to shave every now and then with whatever disposibles were around and then grew beards....so, there you are. I did what I could.

I have a moustache and goatee, but shave the rest of my face. But that comes and goes.

Well done getting your son introduced early on in his shaving life. Both my sons are adults now and still make fun of my obsession. Some day they will see sense .... I am convinced of it.

They will eventually realize the value of a lot of what we said Wendell, then promptly decide it's their own idea.

Roger, Yes well, I have a goatee as well but sons just don't shave as far as I can tell. Maybe trim up here and there on occasion but that's it. Oh well....perhaps Wendall is right....one can always hope....

I have given my boys (21 & 13) all the information they need.
They will find their own way, no doubt.
Just as they will in love, money, politics, religion ... etc.
