Re: New to the forum
Alright y'all, I don't have internet access to often. I am relatively new to wet shaving, been at it about a year, so I'm starting to get pretty decent at it.
About me:
My name is Brent
I am married to the most amazing lady [Robin]
We have currently had a new addition to our family his name is Leif Vallon he is 3 weeks old
I am 22 and Robin is 25. We live in Northwest Mississippi right down the street from Elvis' old ranch.
The gear I am using:
I rotate between VDH Luxury, Omega soap in a tub, and William's Mug [It lathers well for me with our water type.. it isn't to bad IMO]
My brush is a cheap starter Omega that is working pretty well, but I am hopefully getting a better badger brush soon.
I am currently shaving with a 1902 GEM Micromatic someone loaned me, but I started with a Weishi [bleh], just bought a Parker 29L [Really enjoyed it, got it for the wife.] Then last night I bought a Cadet TP 26. <Much anticipation about this one. It will be my first three piece. The GEM has by far been my favorite razor thus far.
I'm glad to be here folks! I'll have a better source of the web soon. I hope I fit right in.

Brent,
Of course you'll fit in...
Your shave kit sounds fine. If you decide to alter your product arsenal, there are plenty
of us here to help you spend your money.
My guess is that with your new family addition (congrats on that Blessed Event) you will
probably find other more pressing demands on your budget!
Welcome again!!! Hope Internet access becomes more convenient and you'll post often!!

Re: New to the forum
You're using a SE razor (the GEM) so you definitely have discriminating taste. There are few of us here who also like GEM MMs so you're in good company. Do you know which model it is? Maybe a few pix? They're all good, but some are milder than others. I'm just curious; not writing a book about you.
What are you using for SE blades?
You've started a trip and the destination isn't important, the voyage is what it's all about. You'll end up where you end up. We all end up with the shave experience we want.
A few years ago shaving was a chore. The last few years it's been an enjoyable experience. I hope if goes as nicely for you. You're on the right track though with SE razors.
(Yeah, I know! I'm a shameless SE razor pimp!)

It seems like anyone in Columbus has family up here :p There is the GEM I'm borrowing. 1902 GEM Micromatic. I'm excited for the Cadet 26!

Nice -- shaving hardware pics are always a welcome sight.
Re: New to the forum
I was thinking maybe the Micromatics came out in the 1930s. Quite an innovation, Twist To Open. They do make good shavers.

Re: New to the forum
Yes, 1930 is the earliest that Micromatic could be. It was the very first TTO razor. (turn to open)
It's commonly referred to as the OCMM (open comb MicroMatic) and it's one heck of a fantastic shaver. One of my favorites. It's also a razor that not everyone can wield because of it's cold efficiency, some would call aggressiveness. Lots of folks tear their faces up with it. You're doing good since you can use it without complaint.

One reason I keep steering clear of any SE razors -- even though in my heart, I truly want to get one of the so-called milder SE razors. On my wish list -- along with that elusive Kent BK4 or H4.ShadowsDad wrote:Yes, 1930 is the earliest that Micromatic could be. It was the very first TTO razor. (turn to open)
