Alaskan Winter Ale: 8 oz fresh Sitka or other spring spruce tips My brewshop has spruce extract available for making beer like this one. I've seen that recipe before... but I've not had it, only heard good things about it. For what its worth, I did pick up the spruce extract and will be brewing thi...

Re: Averting a Formal Attire Disaster

... I hope I did the right thing by my curmudgeonly meddling. I think they’ll thank me in years to come (?). Many of you have mentioned children’s weddings, so I’m wondering if this is a common experience (not the meddling father; the departure from established formal wear standards amongst the men...

I don't really care for my Lamy, but I love my Waterman Phileas -- I ended up getting a Waterman Expert II because of how much I like the Phileas. Oddly, Most days I still prefer the Phileas. I'm a big fan of the low-end Parkers too, like the Frontier (Don't know if it is still made). I picked up a ...

I played RPGs back in the 1980s, some D&D, but mostly a system called 'The Fantasy Trip' designed by Steve Jackson back when he was at Metagaming. Haven't played any RPGs since the 80's were over, but I am really big into the modern Eurogames (Settlers of Catan, Power Grid, Agricola) and their m...

My preference, in terms of best bang for the buck, is Evan Williams, either the black label (more expensive, almost $20 for 1.75L) for sipping or the green label (for mixing, although I find it tolerable straight on ice), usually around $13.00 for 1.75L. I've spent some time exploring the 'bottom sh...

One question why is there such a shortage of ammo out there? From what I've been told by my friends who shoot a lot, it is because of anticipated increases in restrictions and taxes on firearms and ammunition from the Obama administration. So people are buying while they can, and/or before new fees...

Another thing: What does everyone think of having my mach 3 as a backup? For example if I have a big work interview and need to be cleanly shaven with no cuts...is it okay to use a Mach 3 until I get used to DE shaving? Or is that just going to give me bad habits again? Relax, use the Mach 3 as req...

I'm still not getting the lather I want. [snip] 1) I just can't see, even when I'm advanced, this shave taking less than 30 minutes. Assuming I'll be doing 3 passes at that point, I can't see it. 2) Irritation: I'm still getting the same amount of irritation that I did with my Mach 3 it seems. That...

Re: SS makes my face raw, should I try a HD?

I was thinking of giving the HD a shot(actually buying my own), but don't want to be let down like I am with the SS. The best shave I can get is a cartridge, but they are so expensive. I like the DE's, but the insane bleeding and face full of scars is just to much. I appreciate all of your opinions...

True, and normally I would applaud a return to tradition. However I like the dry taste of the current vermouth in my Martinis. "Sweet and floral" does not sound terribly appealing to me (although it might be very nice as an aperitif). We'll see... -Scott I'm with you...there is nothing li...

I will exchange it for a fine. My wife says that it looks like too much ink on the paper, and that was regular copy paper. On some, Tony is right, it seems to soak up the ink. Sam, I struggle with this a lot. I have a bunch of mediums and only one fine. Here is a sample of what my writing looks lik...
