When you're not familiar with a certain brand of soap, or when you want to practice, then start out by making your lather too dry. Adding water is easy, but you can't subtract. That's why I advocate using an eyedropper to add your water to the lather. I found my eyedropper/bottle at The Container S...

It might be helpful to get the sides of the brush involved when getting the soap off the puck instead of just the center. Does that make sense? Also, it's more stirring than whipping, (when generating your lather.) When you add water, (I don't know if this is a good thing), but what I do, is apply l...

Here is what I am doing step by step. I have my soap in the bottom of an old coffee mug. I Fill my sink with enough HOT water to come up to the top of the mug and I make sure to fill the inside with the hot water. However I dump it out so it does not sit in there... ***Could that be a mistake*** I ...

Hiya Mish, Welcome to SMF. Here's a neat method (Thanks AFDavis11)! that I use all the time to find the correct blade angle. It really made a big difference in my shaves. Hold the razor head squarely against your cheek. Rock the handle down until you hear the razor start to cut the whiskers. How wil...

What's the difference: EJ Gregorian/ Merkur HD

Hiya Everyone, I would like to know, if someone could tell me the differences between the EJ Gregorian, and the Merkur HD. Is one heavier than the other? Does one shave better than the other? Does one razor have more pieces to it than the other? Feel free to answer any questions I didn't ask.... :D ...

You're getting into a topic I have broached before, and not always with any welcome. Our forefathers had bad shaves. The idea that Cary Grant was perfectly shaven is about as real as the interest he displayed in his leading ladies. Consider this - most men, if they were shaved at all, were shaved b...

As far as screening is concerned, this is the "Prohibited Items List" according to the gospel of TSA as seen on this web page about 30% down... Me -- I just got back from Honolulu. Taking no chances, I packed an "empty" Gillette Super A in checked-in luggage and took no blades a...

Hi mgraepel,

Our water here is not that hard at all. But just to play it safe, I bought distilled water and made my lather using that.

Notthesharpest: So brushless is like a thin paste then? (or how would you describe it?)

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the post.

Do you know how to generate a lather using a "brushless" cream? The more details the better.

I may have hurt my forearm...

.....from spending so much time being such a perfectionist about making lather. So I think it would be a good idea to give the forearm a rest from the badger brush. :( So I took my first shave with Aveeno Therapeutic Moisturizing Gel. Seriously, they have to pick a new name, or it's not meant f...

Re: What do you really wear when you shave?

This may be a stupid question, but I am wondering what you wear when you shave. I am usually half naked when I shave right after taking a shower. My problem is that I get cold in the winter time if I don't wear something for my upper body. I am seriously thinking about getting a turkish bathrobe an...

What does an adjustable razor adjust?

Hiya, I have the Merkur LH, and am looking into getting the Progress. Could someone post some photograps with an adj. razor set at different settings, so I could see what an adj. razor adjusts? I think I'd suggest something like a Progress for your next razor. Why stay with a fixed head razor when you can get an adjustable.? -Tye Hiya, I always thought that if I were to get an adjustable, I'd put it on the lowest setting. So, What's the difference between doing just that and buying a fixe...

what do you have now and what do like and not like about it? I have the Merkur Long Handle and I like it fine. I need to buy a second DE. but which one?

Hiya, I have to buy a second DE, because, I have sensitive skin in one area, and that area, can't take feathers. Soooo. I was thinking of a nice razor to upgrade to like Edwin Jagger. They look nice. But I have no idea as to the quality of shave that they give. (or how they feel in the hand, for that...
